Here is the press release by UT:
IRVING, Texas - Sophomore punter Michael Dickson (Sydney, Australia) has been honored by the Big 12 Conference as the Special Teams Player of the Year. Dickson, who is a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, is the first Longhorn, and just the fourth punter in the conference, to win the award which began in 2005.
Dickson punted 65 times on the season for a school-record average of 47.4 yards per punt. His average was third-best in the nation, while the Longhorns’ net punting average of 42.8 yards per punt was also ranked third nationally.
He registered 25 punts of more than 50 yards in 2016 and had five punts of more than 60 yards. In the regular season finale, Dickson boomed a career-long punt of 74 yards which was downed at the TCU 3. It was tied for the sixth-longest punt in school history and tied for the ninth longest in the country this season.
Dickson showed off not just incredible leg strength throughout the season, but also precise accuracy. He had 28 punts downed inside the 20 on the year and 13 downed inside the 10. Of his punts that were downed inside the 10-yard line, UT’s opponents managed just seven points all season off the ensuing drives.
Three times this season Dickson recorded a single-game average that stands as one of the eight best games in school history. In the season opener, Dickson averaged a school-record 55.0 yards per punt on six attempts in a win over Notre Dame. In consecutive weeks late in the season, Dickson averaged more than 50 yards per punt. Against Baylor, his 52.7 yards per punt average was the fourth-best in school history, while against Texas Tech his 51.0 yards per punt average was eighth-best.
