Quick Hits
- Chris Brown moves up to No.2 on the market share rankings, but I think he's number one in all of our hearts as far as cockamamie celebrations and various muscle-flexing/taunting opposing players because he's successfully managed to tackle them after they have gotten a first down.
- Tom Herman is right about Joseph Ossai, he plays like a maniac. He's one player you can't look at and say he's not giving it his all. There are, unfortunately, numerous players on the team who sometimes appear that way, but Ossai is all fire, all the time. We have little doubt that he'll probably exit stage left following the season for greener pastures, not only due to the fact that he's putting some really good games on tape, but also given the current state of the Texas program as a whole.
- By now, it is safe to say that Jacoby Jones is a better option to start at the SDE than Moro Ojomo is. Ojomo played better than he has been versus OU, but the fact is that he is not making the impact needed. Jones has played a little over half the snaps that Ojomo has, but has generated production SIX TIMES MORE OFTEN. (6X). Oscar Giles needs to earn his paycheck, which he, like Stan Drayton and punt-block allowance specialist Jay Boulware would not allow to be docked during the pandemic. He's only really coaching a few guys on the entire football team (defensive ends) and he needs to get the most productive ones out there the most often.
- Ojomo is also the most penalized player on the team (4) and has missed three tackles on the season while Jacoby Jones has done neither. In fact, here is the list of players on defense sorted by snaps per missed tackle:
Guys with at least 90 snaps who've not missed a tackle:
Player - Total Snaps - Snaps per miss
NT Keondre Coburn- 159 - N/A
DT Alfred Collins - 108 - N/A
DE Jacoby Jones - 91 - N/A
The rest:
CB D'Shawn Jamison - 205 - 205.00
CB Jalen Green - 197 - 197.00
NT T'Vondre Sweat - 130 - 130.00
LB Cort Jacquess - 84 - 84.00
DB Chris Adimora - 231 - 77.00
S Chris Brown - 217 - 72.33
DT Ta'Quon Graham - 191 - 63.67
DE Moro Ojomo - 167 - 55.67
CB Josh Thompson - 166 - 55.33
LB Juwan Mitchell - 177 - 44.25
S Caden Sterns - 170 - 42.50
LB Joseph Ossai - 243 - 40.50
DE Reese Leitao - 39 - 39.00
DB Anthony Cook - 65 - 32.50
LB Ayodele Adeoye - 32 - 32.00
S B.J. Foster - 153 - 30.60
LB Demarvion Overshown - 264 - 24.00
S Jerrin Thompson - 40 - 13.33
DE Vernon Broughton - 13 - 13.00
DB Xavion Alford - 11 - 11.00
- On that same note, Jett Bush is playing too much at the JACK. Only take Ossai out when completely necessary. He can clearly be an every down player. Furthermore, there were other odd substitutions during a game that was never one that afforded for such luxurious times to get backups a little run (besides having a guy like Jett Bush in on the third series): Why is Anthony Cook playing a quarter of snaps every week when Chris Adimora is healthy? Why Did David Gbenda get a series over Demarvion Overshown? Why did Jahdae Barron of all people play when Green and Jamison were both healthy? Is the Red River Shootout the best time to get a freshman some run with live bullets flying?
These are questions we'll likely never get answered, but one thing we will is what the heck happened to the Texas offensive line versus Oklahoma?
Onward to the offense, back to the basement.
