I tell you I am truly awed that the OK/ TX. game has been taken to the next level. It's always felt like something bigger than yourself and now it's even bigger.

That said I gotta admit I don't have a good feeling about this game. I'm always the optimist the only time I picked us to lose was last year at WV but we won anyway. What worries me the most is their home run ability in particular Hollywood Brown and KM. We saw what happened when PJ3 and I think Brandon Jones had a communication breakdown and pow just like that HB was gone. I've been thinking back when Baylor's offense was at their peak. When they played MSU in the Cotton Bowl they completely shut down Baylor's running game. Bryce Petty went on to have not just CB record but a bowl record for passing yards but MSU won. I know Sutton is out and Trey Sermon is injured. That leaves Kennedy Brooks. Can we shut those guys down to where OK has to stop going to them? But then there's KM. He had a couple of runs where the. coverage was perfect and he stood there for a few seconds and our dl couldn't get to him and he ended up running for 20+ and there was that designed running play where he went 67 yards. My thought is to stop Brooks, Sermon, and limit HB's big plays. And can Orlando come up with a plan to get to KM. I respect Orlando's talent but is there anyway to get through their ol? I gotta admit they have a helluva ol. I even wonder if their defense will slow us to under 40 and that might be enough for them to win. This has got to be the worst OK defense I've ever seen.

I think about our offense and I'm confident that Tom, Tim, and the rest of the crew will add anothet wrinkle to confuse that mediocre defense of theirs. But the one advantage they have over us offensively is that we don't have that big play maker and OK has so many.

I enjoy the podcast Fanatic Perspective. They disagree with coach Herman's chip on the shoulder approach to the game. But when I think about it everybody is picking OK to win and by 8 points. Does someone know something I don't? I'm sure coach Herman knows what he's doing and I know the team is behind him.

I feel we have the chance to right so many wrongs from the last 20 years. We should have more than 2 titles the last 20 years we should not have had 4 blowout losses under MB. But the last 6 years we are 3/3 against OK and the last 4 games are 2/2 and both teams have scored a total of 136 points. The OK/TX games have never been this close historically the game has run in cycles for about 5 to 7 years and in the 15 games between Stoops and Brown only 3 games were by single digit margins. For coach Herman to win his first Big XII title in only his second season would be huge, and to beat OK twice in the same season is beyond description.

My head says OK but my heart says
TX 38
OK 35

It is very hard to beat a top 5 caliber team. It is incredibly difficult to beat them twice. It is almost impossible for the same team to beat them twice in one year.

Almost impossible.
A lot of people said it was impossible for the Cowboys to beat the Saints last night and look at what happened. It’s gonna come down to the turnover battle. If we don’t turn the ball over I think we win.

War Room Big XII title game:

(From Anwar)

The War Room is back after taking a week off for Thanksgiving.

The Thanksgiving leftovers should be gone by now, but I hope you saved some room for Longhorn nuggets.

Without any delay, I will give you a plethora of Longhorn notes that hopefully satisfies your appetite for football news.

--- This is a small note, but an important one.

I have heard nothing but positive things about how this team has looked during practice with Oklahoma right around the corner. Sure, the coaches will say the right things, but others associated with the program have confirmed what we have heard this week.

One person close to the program told me the players looked ready for Oklahoma earlier this week, and the intensity in practice was noticeable.

By the way, as I spoke with players this week about Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray, each respected him, but I sensed nobody was in awe.

In fact, there were times I sensed players were getting a little annoyed with the constant questions about Murray’s greatness. Do not get me wrong, they were very respectful. I could just tell by their eyes and responses that they did not put Murray on the same pedestal as everyone in the media.

That quiet confidence could be a positive sign for the Longhorns on Saturday.

--- The biggest story this week, which some tried to downplay, was former Kansas coach David Beaty’s impact in Herman’s preparation for Oklahoma.

I previously reported Beaty was going to fly into Austin to help Herman prepare for the Big 12 Championship game. That report was confirmed by Herman during his press conference on Monday.

However, Herman tried to soften the significance of Beaty’s visit, which ended up being a phone call after snow prevented the former Kansas coach from flying out.

“Yeah, I don't know why that's news,” Herman said. “Whenever you play an opponent, and then you don't play that opponent again, and you have friends on that staff, you're going to call 'em and say, ‘Hey, what did you have on us?’ So, we got done playing USC, we called the coaches at USC and said, ‘Hey, what did you have on us? Here is what we had on you.’ You share that information to help -- it's all self-scout stuff like here is when so and so DB lines up in this stance, it's man, and when it's in this stance, it's zone. You get lost at times. As good of coaches as we have, you're so focused on game planning for your opponent that sometimes you lose sight of what your opponent is game planning for you.

“It's always nice to have a fresh set of eyes. Talking about signals, they had some of the signals for us that we wanted to, hey, do we need to change signals, so a lot of it, really all of it was self-scout type stuff like here is what we had on you. It's very common. It just so happened that we were playing this week, and they weren't. He's a friend of mine, and we weren't going to play each other again, but the visit actually never materialized because of the blizzard in Kansas City, but we did talk to them extensively on the phone, talked to David, Clint Bowen, Kenny Perry, their special teams coordinator.
All of that stuff is commonplace to say, hey, what do you got on us? And how have we evolved as a team? I think we're running the ball more consistently offensively.”

I spoke to a person close to Herman this week, and was told coaches typically share information with each other.

However, I asked that person how often does a coach fly into a city to meet with a head coach. I was told this situation was different because Herman and Beaty are close friends.

In fact, that person reminded me that Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley, who voiced his displeasure about Beaty helping Herman, has a brother (Garrett) who was a tight ends/fullbacks coach at Kansas.

“Do you really think Lincoln isn’t going to ask his brother for the signals and tendencies that Texas has?” a person in the building asked me.

Hey, he had a good point.

I asked multiple people about Beaty’s impact, and I was told he provided good insight.

From what I was told, the staff learned about defensive signals opposing teams were aware of that had been passed around the conference. They were also informed of tendencies and different alignments as to where their blitzes were coming from. As a result, changes were made this week.

From an offensive perspective, there were few formation tendencies that tipped off opposing defenses, too. Again, there were will be changes on the offensive side of the ball, too. Obviously, I was not given anything specific about those changes.

Even if Beaty’s input does not have a huge impact, Longhorn fans should be happy to know Herman went all out in his effort to defeat Oklahoma for a second time this season.

--- Nobody that matters was upset about Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger’s social media activity this week.

As you know, Murray was asked if he respected Ehlinger’s game, and the quarterback refused to comment. Ehlinger returned to Twitter and tweeted “OK. Cool. Hook Em!” However, Ehlinger was aloof when asked about his tweet by reporters on Wednesday.

When I spoke to people associated with the program, nobody had an issue with Ehlinger.

“He was having fun, taking pride in his school, and he’s not going to be disrespected by anybody from Oklahoma,” I was told.

--- I asked Herman what the next day or so will look like for Texas before his team plays against Oklahoma.

Herman said the team will begin meetings around 8:30 a.m. on Friday. After the meetings, the team will board a bus and head straight to AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Herman said the team will have a walk-through at the stadium in an effort to get the “awe” out of the system for some players.

When I asked about flying to Dallas, Herman said it was just easier to drive.

“Most of the players prefer it,” Herman said. “A half-hour drive to the airport, you’ve got to load the plane, an hour flight, unload the plane, another half-hour, or hour drive to the stadium to save 45 minutes or so. They’d rather sprawl out, watch a movie, or take a nap. We’ll bus up there, as we did in October.”

Herman said his team will have a 20-minute walk-through after the hotel before departing for the stadium.

we DOMINATED them for 3 qtrs. the 4th qtr made the game seem closer than it actually was. it was about the bulls up front. you don't get that much better in that area over a short period of time. they clearly haven't. i think we push them around again. may have to weather a storm for a bit. IF THEY JUMP ON US and we panic and try to turn it into a shootout, it could snowball on us. but even if they do jump out on us, if we commit to grinding the game, we'll get back in it. i think we're going to win by 2 touchdowns. something in the neighborhood of 45-31.

They'll probably try to cheapshot Sam's shoulder. Because they're trash. Watch for it.
I’ve seen Sam play exactly 2 games where I thought he played really good games, both were in Dallas. I’ve seen him play a lot of other games where he was very inconsistent. My prediction is predicated on the inconsistent Sam showing up.

Sam rises to the occasion. I think you'll be cussing him by the end of the game.

I get that you probably don't watch many Texas games, but Sam has balled out for the vast majority of the season. Maryland and KU aside, he's played pretty darn well.

I'll go 41-27 Boomer. Not really sure what to expect in a rematch like this. I feel OU didn't necessarily play their best first time around and UT played their best game of the year (maybe this is just wishful thinking on my part). Here's to hoping for an injury free game, UT turnovers and no OU turnovers.

I think most would agree that Texas by far played the best game of the season the first time around. Even with the turnovers giving Texas the ball deep in OU territory. IIRC, at about 8 or 9 minutes left in the 3rd it was a 7 point game. Momentum changes. Eliminate turnovers, game over.

Take the points and the UNDER!! When 3 pt shooting teams go into a slump, they really go into a slump. They tend to get beat by teams with aggressive and talented defense. This sums up Texas D. 35-31 Texas.

Almost impossible.

On May 27, 1942 the USS Yorktown limped into Pearl Harbor having been badly damaged at the Battle of the Coral Sea some three weeks prior. Commander in Chief of the Pacific Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, (a gallant Texan) armed with intelligence that the Japanese fleet would be attempting to seize Midway Island, desperately needed the Yorktown to be battle ready. Nimitz called his chief engineering officer and the shipyard foreman to his office. Reports had been flowing into Nimitz' office stating that returning the Yorktown to battle ready status would take weeks if not months. The chief engineer and shipyard foreman were well aware of those reports. Admiral Nimitz told the men that he needed the Yorktown ready for battle in two days. Their response?

"The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer..."

A little longer turned out to be 3 days. The Yorktown entered drydock on May 28th and sailed as the flagship of Task Force 17 on May 30, 1042, bound for a date with destiny at Midway.

I expect Herman and the Longhorns will take about 4 hours to accomplish the impossible by heeding the example of that gallant Texan Nimitz.....calculated risks to inflict maximum damage on the enemy. US Navy.....errr....Longhorns 38 Dirt Burglars 31....

As I said earlier in the week, if you lose to this defense, it may go down as the worst loss ever.

I would love to see all safe space/ignore button features disabled during game time :D

Friend just texted from the game said UT qb looking ‘eratic’ In pregame. Didn’t say which qb though

well piss.

Offense needed to be near perfect and they were far from it. Dead ball penalties and some head scratcher plays.

40 points would've won it...smh
The team played their asses off today! Hopefully we will win our bowl game and carry some momentum into next year.

I was pretty damn close! Good game Horns, ended the season 1-1 and the future looks bright for this Rivalry (The best in CFB).
