The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that it intends to lift sanctions against the business empire of Oleg V. Deripaska, one of Putin's closest cronies and Russia’s most influential oligarchs, after an aggre$$ive lobbying campaign by Deripaska’s companies.
The decision by the Trump Treasury Department drew criticism from patriots of both parties and sane foreign policy analysts with integrity that the administration was sending the wrong signal to Moscow about its conduct toward its neighbors and the United States.
Mr. Deripaska’s position as Putin flunky in Russia made the decision transparently subserviant by the Trump administration, at a time when Trump is increasingly shown by the special counsel and multiple investigations to be in conspiracy with Russians on multiple fronts, including interference in the 2016 election.
