I thought this SEC thing was supposed to be tough?

The Longhorns are competing in their first full season in the conference in all sports, and they have been nothing short of dominant.

The Texas men’s tennis team added to that dominance this weekend winning the SEC tournament.

The Longhorns ran away with the regular season title, not losing a single conference match until the final match of the season against Tennessee last weekend.

The men's tennis team had three players out last weekend during their loss to Tennessee:
Sophomore Lucas Brown
Junior Sebastian Gorzny
Freshman Oliver Ojakaar

Lucas Brown made it back to play doubles and Sebastian Gorzny got back in the action and helped win his singles matches to bring home the title.

Grozny was so nails this weekend he ended up taking home all-tournament team honors.

ROUNDUP OF UT SPORTS IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND:

The women’s tennis team is also competing in the SEC Championships.

The Horns went 9-6 in conference play, but they got hot at the end of the season winning their last five matches, including an upset last Friday of the then number one ranked team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Horns finished the regular season defeating South Carolina last Sunday.

They’ll be matched up against the Gamecocks in the first round of the tournament with play set to get underway at 6:00 pm (CDT) this evening (Thursday).

The winner of the UT/USC match will move on to play the one seed, Texas A&M Aggies on Friday night.

The softball team is getting right back up on that horse again after losing two of three to Tennessee last weekend.

The loss dropped the Horns from being the number one team in the country to the number three team.

“Our destiny is still in front of us and everything we are striving for is still in front of us,” softball head coach Mike White told the Austin-American Statesman after his team’s 4-1 loss to Tennessee in game 3 Sunday.

The Horns do still control their destiny. A win this weekend against the ninth ranked LSU Tigers would go a long way towards sealing a top eight seed in the postseason. That would mean every game would be at home for the regionals and super regionals before going to Oklahoma for the Women’s College World Series.

Texas won game one with a walk off grand slam! The first in the program’s history.

The beach volleyball team is hosting its final tournament of the regular season at the Wright-Whitaker Sports Complex this weekend.

The Horns are coming off a clean sweep at a tournament at Florida State University two weekends ago where they defeated the numbers 5, 10 and 15th ranked teams in the country.

Now, the Horns sit 8th in the country themselves and they will be using this home tournament as a nice warmup before the national championships beginning next Friday.

By the way, if you want to know why Texas was able to become one of the best teams in the country almost instantly, look no further than the coaches. CDC hiring Stein Metzger away from UCLA was a game changer.

The volleyball team takes on:

Southern Miss (12:00 pm CT on Friday)
#6 Cal Poly (4:30 pm CT on Friday)
Southern Miss (6:30 pm CT on Friday)
#17 North Florida (12:00 pm CT on Saturday)

Finally, the track and field team is going from coast to coast to compete this weekend.

The distance runners are at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California and have already seen some success.

While the sprinters and throwers will be in Gainesville, Florida for the Tom Jones Invitational.

Some of the best track and field athletes in the world will be in Gainesville this weekend, including most of the SEC. It will be a key marker to see where the Horns stand with the SEC Championships a little more than a month away.

Speaking of dominance, the hiring of Bob Bowman to take over for Eddie Reese was nothing short of phenomenal. I'm not sure any other athletic director in the country could have pulled that off.

Bowman’s portal recruiting directly led to UT’s national championship.

DIRECTORS CUP PROJECTIONS

You know, it's not fair to pick on just the SEC ... the truth is, Texas athletics are second to none - in any conference. UT is still projected to win its third Director’s Cup in the last four years.
