Lets hire Augie Garrido temporally back until we can take our time and find a winner like the rest of our coaches instead of just throwing money at diff coaches

Let's all take a breath and relax. It will work out. Texas will get a good coach.

They offered that LSU coach...funny!, everyone loves Texas cause when they come after your coaches its a sure fire way for them to get a big raise in pay so they will stay where they are....depends on if you a money coach or dedicated coach to the game, I always said how much money ya pay me is how dedicated I get to you..anyway hope we find a good one now we got BB and FB sowed up with great coaches or maybe coaches are scared to come to Texas cause they know the pressure to win is great and if they don't win then they are gone...

They didn't offer the LSU coach the job. He said as much. The job has not been offered to anyone, yet.

Keep an eye on the West Coast. It's likely Savage or Casey. Coaches getting a bump in pay is due to their agent running with the Texas job being open. It's a top 5 job...

A quick baseball coaching search update:

Since we reported earlier tonight that Oregon State’s Pat Casey emerged today, after a visit from Texas, as the 1a candidate among the duo of he and UCLA’s John Savage, we have yet to hear any information different from that. In fact, as of late Thursday evening, there continues to be even more buzz that surrounds his name and the strong link to the Texas opening.

Considering that Texas has touched base with a few names, has communicated extensively and multiple times with Savage and Casey, and has done its homework on the people it wants to, this search has a legitimate chance to end soon. Finally. And those signs at this time point to Casey the most. (McComas)

The job won't likely be officially offered to anyone to turn down. That's the way we seem to roll, we won't offer the job to anyone unless we know for sure they are going to sign.

I think Mike Perein's lack of expierence as an AD and the outside view that's he's a short term fix for the job is hurting us here

Shouldn't have got rid of Augie! Young fools never learn....next yr might have been a winning yr but, ya'll couldn't wait...now you got nothing!

Hopefully TCU's Schlossnagle is being considered.

He might be getting a pay increase....one guy people aren't talking about is DBUs head coach. He probably won't leave. It has been said his family likes Cedar Hill and the Christian University also plays a big part of his life style.

Give me a break. Whoever we get will be better than a 77-year-old Augie who doesn't recruit and who attends barely half the practices (and hardly utters a word when he does attend). Keeping washed-up Augie around wasn't going to change anything for the better. It wouldn't have helped us land a better coach. It would have just postponed the rebuild further -- and more than one year further, since a lame-duck coach ensures a wasted recruiting class.

Perrin is showing why we need a real AD, though. Maybe someday we'll actually have management commensurate with our resources.

I have a better chance of coaching at Texas than Heefner ever does. No one with his kind of overbearing religiosity is ever going to be head coach here. He's a good fit where he's coaching now.

It seems like Patterson may of gotten his coaching hires right and everything else wrong. Perrin might be fixing everything else but struggling in the coaching department.

It doesn't take any special expertise to see that someone who has just produced the worst five-year stretch in the 121-year history of the program needs to move on. That's just common sense.

Whoa bbr we were 1 out away for playing for a natty in 2014. We did end up losing to the eventual national champion, but the other years ridiculous.

Maybe you are right BBR, I wonder was his coaching or not having good enough players to win? I guess it don't matter anyway cause he's gonna take the fall regardless... of course there are good coaches with bad players that never go anywhere

That's true -- and it would have taken winning the national championship in 2014 to keep the last five years from being our worst ever.

Any thoughts on the coach for Coastal Carolina, Gary Gilmore? Winner of 841 games, national coach of the year, is that correct? Sounds like a guy looking for his next big gig to carry the torch.

If anyone was interested to know this Tech knocked out #1 Florida today in the elimination game. All 3 big 12 schools are still in and okie state sitting well with a 2-0 start winning both games 1-0.

Ok, so I understand that Tulane's coach wouldn't be a terrible hire, and I've definitely been on record for going with the "up and comer" not the "established guy" in other coaching searches, so who knows, but that said...

Any chance that, once the CWS is over, President Fenves pulls the same thing he did when it came to hiring Sterlin Gilbert, and rustles up a posse and heads up to either Lubbock, Stillwater, or Fort Worth? I'm not necessarily the biggest on stealing from within our own conference either, but... I mean. This is BASEBALL. And we're TEXAS. Go talk up our tradition, ask what it would take to make a deal to get them to be the next part of that tradition, and then say "sure, you want those upgrades to the facilities? you want these changes? they are paying you how much? meh, here's more. done."

Or, on the other hand... and this is getting into things I know nothing about, but... what about UC Santa Barbara's coach? Or Coastal Carolina?

Again, I know very little about these guys, but a quick look at Wikipedia tells me that Coach Checketts, of UCSB, began coaching the Gauchos prior to the 2012 season and they've made it to the tournament in 2013, 2015, and 2016, hosting a regional in 2015, and currently one of 6 teams still alive in Omaha this season. I know UCSB wouldn't be anything like the scale of coaching UT, but let's not forget that Augie came to Texas from Cal State Fullerton. Of course Augie was considerably older and more experienced... but that's going to be true of him compared to an awful lot of the candidates.

And Coastal Carolina, given that they aren't in a power conference or anything, has been overall pretty impressive. Coach Gilmore's record is longer, and yeah, there are several seasons with only moderate levels of success, but he's had some really really good seasons (including this year) at a school whose resources are nowhere near what Texas' are. Of course, he's also played there as a student and has coached there for 20 years now so a) it might be tougher to pry him away for sentimental reasons at this point and b) he has only made 3 Super Regionals and 1 CWS (this year) over those 20 years. He's had very steady success, making it to the tournament a lot, and again, yeah, with the upgrade in facilities and recruiting, maybe that would push him towards more success... but it's easier to like Checketts' quick upswing in a relatively short amount of time to Gilmore's steady but usually modest success.

Any reason we haven't heard much about either of them as candidates?

Or, again, any chance we go all in on snagging one of the other CWS coaches (including, potentially, Big 12 coaches and/or coaches who just were given raises to keep us away anyway)?
