Welcome to the 40 Parker Braun

Word is he is open to red-shirting this year and becoming the replacement for Shack next year. I'm guessing this decision will come down to what happens this spring and fall as a handful of guys, Braun included, battle it out at guard. If he is anything but the starter, makes sense for him to take the shirt and be backup guard/center. The 4 game redshirt rule could really help out and allow him to fill if several games if we have injuries.

The other benefit: his brother is a stud OT. Joshua Braun, 4 star OT (19th Ot overall). Lindberg and Garth are higher but this is definitely a kid you bring in if able. The Florida schools are the favorites at this time but having a brother playing in Austin will certainly make us contenders.

the reason he is open to a redshirt is that he is light for his position and he knows it(280). He also has not gotten much pass blocking experience playing at GT. He is smart and supposedly has a HUGE motor and mean streak. He is or will be working towards his Masters in Anthropology so he is planning to be here two years anyway. If redshirting gets him better prepared for the draft , then he is ok with it.

Thanks for the insight. Not many Grad transfers want to go somewhere and consider taking a shirt but makes sense given size and scheme - neither of which translate well to the NFL currently.

Herb Hand is doing a phenomenal job recruiting guys. It seems that they trust that he will coach them up and make them better. Plus, they love the job McKnight is doing in the weight room - making guys bigger, stronger, faster.

The Florida schools had the inroads in this recruitment - given family location and where his brother is likely to end up - but it seems Braun felt he would have the most personal success at Texas.

ok...if you liked that then get real happy because JUCO Willie Tyler just committed to the good guys also. He is a big guy, but will most certainly be red shirted. He has 4 years to play 3 so he has time. These Juco and GT guys are really buying in to the idea that Herb Hand will coach them up and McKnight will build them up. I would expect that this is not lost on the recruits either....

Man!...not too long ago we were playing walk- ons on the O-Line in games for Christ sake!

Tyler might be the right size to play the line....he is after all only 6'7" and 330#....very much an under the radar guy.....He is the size guy you want McKnight to chisel out and then let him be the first guy off the bus....

It is just so unbelievable how bad and how long our OL was depleted.

as I understand it, he was not that imto football or school. He was a DL in HS but hit a big geowth spurt and got moved to O line....didnt like it and left that school. finally got his head screwed on right....he will red shirt for sure.

Why did this guy go juco out of high school?

Recruited as a DL, went to school and was switched to OL after having a growth spurt of 2 inches. Didn't really take to it, never ended up playing. He left his first school and then it sounds like came around to the idea. Went back to school with a better mindset about his new position. Finished up in 3 semesters so that he could move on to D1 ball quicker.
