What about defense?

So I get the strategy with the offensive moves. However, the defense was the worst in Texas history from a statistics point of view. Any movement on making defensive changes or is Strong just chalking it up to lack of maturity given the decision to play a bunch of young players?

One camp says-we are young and our offense sucked so bad that it kept our defense on the field all the time. Combine that with the injuries and we were doomed to suck regardless of the coach.

If you are in that camp, we don't need to make any defensive coaching changes.

Another camp says, look at our horrendous defensive tackle recruitment. We need a new coach that can bring in badly needed defensive tackle talent. The same camp says injuries are a natural part of football. We need new defensive coaches that are capable of recruiting quality depth (and coaching) or our defense will suck again next year.

So much was broke this year, all I know is we are not cutting it with DL recruiting. We need a coaching change.

Texas started 8 freshmen on defense against Baylor and Malik Jefferson(injury) wasn't one of them.

Definitely need DL

Rumors abound regarding Strong trying to bring Clint Hurtt in for DL. Chicago's season ends 1/3.

Scum. Dirty Core Values that man has.

This is the same DC who confused and rendered Baylor's high flying offense inept last year. Strong and Bedford didn't just forget how to coach defense. These kids will grow up, and hopefully we'll get deeper on the line. We'll get much better, I have no doubt.

Oh yeah and hopefully the offense gets better and can stay on the field.

I agree with Metcalf( not for the first time either). I would not mind however getting a better DL coach/recruiter.
I think Bedford is as good as he was last year, just not as blessed with SR. Leadership.

We should know about the defense next year.

With a years experience and another year in coach Moorer's S&C program we should see quite a bit of improvement in the defense.
If we see the same mistakes and inability to make halftime adjustments we'll probably be looking for coaches again next year.

I've seen my Ags go from outside the top 100 to inside the Top 50 in a year. I don't see the Texas defense doing that though. Losing too many good senior players.

Much improved, but those numbers would look much different against better offenses and not those ranked: 11, 23, 31, 33, 49, 52, 83, 90, 96, 100, 116 and Western Carolina.

It's not apples to apples

8 of the 12 teams Texas played are top 30 offenses, 5 are top 10, I believe.

He must have meant from 2014 to 2015. That was certainly true. Brown, Reed, Diggs, Hicks and Thompson all went to the NFL.

He must have been lazy and recycled last year's aggy mantra as there were only 2 seniors on the starting D by the latter part of the season. Jinkens and Duke Thomas.

Your list should open some eyes as to why this year's D wasn't anywhere close to last year's. It lost the best 2 guys at each level of the D and 5 of them are now playing in the NFL.

DL- Brown and Reed
LB- Hicks and Edmond
DB- Diggs and Thompson

No, Ags warned yall the defense would fall apart and Malik would end up hurt behind your DL this year. Pretty close if you ask me. I'm saying you will miss Jinkens, Thomas, and Jackson next year.

So now "too many good senior players" has morphed into "a couple of guys" in just a few posts? Gotcha. :D

Trust me, you don't know what you're talking about and are now spinning after your complete faceplant on the topic.

I doubt it. Stud CB's will mature as noticed when they began to finish out the year, LB corp of Malik, Wheeler, Freeman, Townsend, Hager and possibly Santos with incoming freshman will secure the LB position and the only hit that could occur at DT would be the Green Mile headed for the draft.

The defense actually progressed with youth on the field. Tank wasn't a key and Poona has that wrapped up (we also have Nelson). We need more DT's for depth, but the defense will be better next season.

Jenkins won't be missed. He was already looking over his shoulder at Wheeler.

As for Duke, tons of heart. We have better skilled players on the roster.

Jinkens yes. Thomas is most replaceable with the young talent and if Evans comes back. Jackson had the lowest production of he, Poona, and Boyette but any DL depth is an issue at this point. Beyond that it is college football and every team has to replace Seniors every year. 2.5 starting Seniors is way better than the 7 starters lost from last year of whom 5 are now NFLers.

Does it really matter? They all speak with the same lemming, groupthink garbage. If you've heard from one cult member, you've heard from them all.

Did you see your defense fall apart against Tech when Jackson and Jinkens were missing? Any Ag would tell you that game should be your reminder of the Iowa State game in 2014 when you were missing players. The defense probably can't get worse, but it will struggle with the seniors gone.

Your defense got worse against Tech as the youth got on the field. LOL.

You do know what couple means two, right?:D

I see that your ability to analyze a defense has led to your brilliant ability to call aggy top 50.

I know you're just trying to avoid the question and the truth, but there are many sites showing us as a Top 50 defense. Texas on the other hand has issues.

Sure, without Ridgeway, Tank, Malik, Jenkins, etc... depth is better moving forward unless Ridgeway leaves, nice cherry pick.

You assume the freshmen make zero progress moving forward and we completely whiff in recruiting. Typical BAS running their mouth.

Texas faced the No. 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 17, 25 and 28 offenses in 2015 for starters, 8 top 30 offenses out of 12 games wasn't going to help our defensive stats, but it gave our youth a ton of experience.

You'd think he'd be thinking about the Ags losing 6 starters off an offense that went the wrong way this year.
