What happens to the home–and–home with Alabama in '22 & '23 now?

Or the Georgia '28 & '29.
Or the Florida '30 & '31.

An in–conference game would mess up conference rankings and records, no?

If we’re in the SEC by then, it won’t happen, or will just be part of the SEC schedule. If we aren’t, then it happens.

Those contracts will be terminated presuming Texas is in the SEC for the '22 season. We will be playing those teams anyway every 2-3 years depending on how they do the scheduling.

@EastTexasLonghorn does this count as another panchos special?

Well we already are set to play the biggest conference foe twice per season so we might as well double down early.

Where it gets complicated is if we don't start SEC play until 2023. No way Alabama comes here in 2022 if they wouldn't get the return game.

I wouldn't mind replacing one of those nonconference series with Texas Tech. Long standing rivalry with another State School. Our conference schedule will be tough enough without having to add these tough non conference games now.

We will need new OOC games to replace them. It won't be easy to replace these games with other marquee opponents. With fewer conferences with more teams there will be fewer OOC options to choose from.

Those games will all be dropped if Texas starts SEC play in ‘22. They will be replaced on the schedule with teams that won’t be as physically demanding.

Guessing it will be moved or they just keep it as the start of the rotation

Doesn't matter now
We’ll replace it with East Chattanooga State College, only play Alabama (SEC East) every 8 years, and pretend like our schedule is now much harder.

Don’t have to pretend…it will be MUCH harder.

With our 8-game conference schedule, plus 2 FCS teams and 2 weak FBS teams? Have you seen the proposed SEC West? Not scared of that at all.

The SEC West would presumably be UT, OU, Mizzou, aTm, miss, miss state, LSU, and Arkansas. Then add in South Carolina as our SEC East opponent, Kent State, Prairie View A&M, Colorado, and New Mexico (that’s A&M’s non conference schedule this season), and we’re set. I’d need to run the numbers, but that’s an easier schedule than what we’re facing in 2021 with our current schedule.
