Honest question wanting others' opinions, and for purpose of this thread, let's not get into a debate about who is right or wrong because I'm sure we won't reach a conclusion on that question.
It seems whenever there is discussion about political & social-economic issues, one side of the discussions may say crime is rising, the new generation is becoming dumber (not intelligence but common sense), and good manners and values are being replaced by individualism and selfishness. The other side jumps in and says that it's all purely anecdotal, cites statistics saying crime rates are falling, the new generation is more intelligent than the previous generations, and manner and values have not changed.
My hunch is the conservatives take the former position and the liberal progressives take the later. In OBers' opinion is this true or false, and why? Or am I totally misreading this.
