Wide receiver Dylan Wright is keeping an open mind in his recruiting process, and while he’s not looking to make an early decision, the West Mesquite standout will be in Austin this weekend to get an up-close look at the Texas program. Wright has visited UT previously, but said he’s looking forward to this weekend’s visit to get a feel on how he would potentially fit in with what Texas is doing on offense.
“I have already seen most of the stuff. I’ve been down there for camps and stuff. I’ve seen the locker room. I just want to get to know the coaches better, coach Drew (Mehringer),” Wright said. “I already know coach Drew. Me and him are really cool. But I want to know the rest of the coaches, see how I’d fit in their new offense.”
The 6-5, 198-pound Wright has taken spring visits to Baylor and TCU leading up to this weekend. He’s keeping an open mind in the recruiting process at this early stage, and says he’s looking to find the school that can best prepare him for a potential professional career.
“I’m open to everything. The offers really haven’t taken a toll on me. Mostly the schools are telling me the same thing,” Wright said. “I’m trying to see which school can get me to where I want to be, that’s in the NFL.”
Wright is closing in on 30 scholarship offers. This spring, he’s trying to get out to see as many programs as possible.
“To be honest, I’m trying to go to every school that I can. Mostly all the schools that have offered me,” Wright said. “I just got off the phone with Georgia coaches, and I want to go there some time.”
A four-star prospect, Wright ranks No. 205 on the Rivals250. His combination of size, speed and athleticism have made him one of the country’s hottest prospects.
“I think with me staying in the weight room, it’s helped me a lot. I have a natural ability to control my body. I’ve always been able to move around,” Wright said. “With me growing to be as big as I am, not many people can do that. Plus I’m physical.”
