A Familiar Foe
We were there. @UTeach and I watched as the Braves accidentally won the weekend set on October 29th through 31st, 2021. We know what this team can do.
We were there when an even younger version of Vaughn Grissom shot the sh¡t with us (we were in field boxes) all game long while destroying the Ashville Tourists. Man, I will NEVER root against that guy as an individual — he made that game a lot of fun. We know who these guys are.
The Braves are an incredibly talented squad. They have gobs of history — recent as well as remote. They haven’t won 8 in a row since a couple of days ago, so they are hungry.
None of this matters. They are in the way. The Astros season has finally started, and the Braves are simply in the way. Nothing personal. Just road bumps.
The Astros will win this series. It’s what we do.
Tidbits:
Game One Matchup:
The Astros will start Hunter “Verlander II” Brown, 2-0, 1.93 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, Throws R: Having watched some of future Hall of Famer Justin Verlander’s best years, Astros fans are now getting to enjoy the younger version. Verlander II remains undefeated as a Major Leaguer (4-0). I will keep the math to a minimum, but one can easily extrapolate from that tidbit that he wins 100% of the time. In his most recent outing, Brown picked up an 8-2 win over the Rangers allowing two unearned runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five in seven frames of work.
The Braves counter with an even younger pitcher in Bryce Elder, 2-0, 1.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, throws R: Also a promising young starter, the now 23-year-old Elder is looking to improve on last year’s 3.17 rookie season ERA (54 frames). Most recently, Elder is coming off of a 9-3 win over KC in which he allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out four in 5-1/3 frames of work.
