Eulogy:

A eulogy (from εὐλογία, eulogia, classical greek, eu for "well" or "true", logia for "words" or "text", together for "praise") is a speech or writing in praise of a person or persons, especially one who recently died or retired, or as a term of endearment. The modern use of the word eulogy was first documented in the 16th century and came from the Medieval Latin term eulogium. Eulogium at that time has since turned into the shorter eulogy of today.

Eulogies are usually delivered by a family member or a close family friend in the case of a dead person. Who better then, to give a proper Eulogy for Philadelphia than their daddy?

Remembering Philadelphia:

Founded in 1883 as the National League replacement for the Worcester, Massachusetts Worcesters, the Phillies quickly rose to fame for being the first American sports franchise to amass 10,000 losses. The program had greatly improved in the Divisional Era (1969-present) winning 11 divisional titles, 6 of their 8 NL pennants, and both of their World Series titles in that timeframe. Sadly for the kind people of Philadelphia (both of them), the following event directly led to their brutal and untimely demise:

Shade of the Phillies:

Entering this series, a team named the “Phillies” is playing in the same uniforms as their ill-fated 2022 predecessors. Like the Astros, this team started off on the wrong foot. Like the Astros, this team is playing better of late. Like the Astros, this team is coming off of a 1-0 victory (Seattle), though they did allow 50% more hits (three), and it did take them until the second to score their run.

None of this matters of course. The Astros will win this series. It’s what we do.

Tidbits:

The Future:

Game One Matchup:

Astros: The Astros will start Framber Valdez, 2-2, 2.35 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, throws L: Houston’s ace will be looking to rebound from his worst start of the season, a 6-3 win in which he allowed 3 runs on 8 hits (2 HR) while striking out 9 and walking none in 7 frames of work.

Phillies: The Phillies will attempt to counter with Aaron Nola, 1-2, 5.40 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, throws R: Although Nola will likely ultimately improve toward last year’s 3.25 ERA, he has not been off the the best of starts in 2023. After allowing 5 ER in 3-2/3 frames in his first start of 2023 (Rangers), Nola has been improving. In his last two starts, Nola has allowed a combined 5 ER in 13 frames, most recently allowing 3 ER in a 4-3 win versus Colorado in which he allowed 3 ER on 4 hits (1 ER) and 3 BB while also striking out 3 in 7.0 frames of work.

¡Basta! Hoy recordamos a los Phillies. Eran mediocres, pero Ketch los amaba.
