Better f*cking kill it on the DL — as in this DL class needs to look like 2018’s DB class.
That is a tall task. This years DB class was truly historic. Probably the best ever DB class signed on any signing day.
I know. I was being a bit hyperbolic to underline the urgency of the situation at DL. Hopefully the staff can work a miracle or two in the next five weeks to make things a little less dire.
You gotta use the hyperbole font man.
The state of Texas just doesn't seem to produce the O-line and D-line players like some other states. We should always have a good crop of WRs, DBs, and QBs to choose from but O-line and front 7 are a bit more of a challenge.
At what point do texas hs fb players start suffering from anti texas bias when ranking players? They are still there but not on paper. It's a huge state so we produce all positions at great quantity (DI caliber talent) but just not quality. There are only 6 OL in the top 50 for 2018 class. Granted that was a down year, but even throwing a few more bodies in that range it's still not much for so many programs to live off of.
2019 I count 7 in top 50. I am guessing that's the norm for past few years and going forward. Versus a typical Texas class yielding 10+ WRs in top 50 and another handful of athletes. There is just an imbalance unless you want to run 5 wide all the time.

It does seem that Tom Herman has no qualms about going out of state to try to land some big fish. I think that approach is necessary and can help us out in years when Texas is thin at a certain position.
To me on field proformancd will dictate the quality of the 2019 class more so than in 2018. Win 8-9 games I think
Yeah I’m happy to see that. I think it’s important to get our pick out of Texas, but No reason Texas shouldn’t be a contender for the best players in the country regardless where they come from. That’s one thing I wish Mack had done a bit more of. Felt like it would of made us and even stronger program.
Agree. I think it would be a solid idea to have a coach or two with like Florida or California recruiting chops on staff. We could fill our WR, DB and QB classes from the state year in year out. But all other positions will need to be supplemented at times. Even if we start getting the absolute best of the best in state, there often just isn't enough beef to fill elite recruiting classes.
Texas Longhorns Recruiting Big Board - Offense
As I did for the 2018 class, I'll attempt to keep up with Texas offers, interested prospects and commitments by position. This list is composed of all 4/5 stars from Texas, all Texas offers, and guys in which there is a serious interest (i.e. Junior Days, recruiting event invites, etc.). This list will be edited periodically. Please provide updates or information that you come across and I'll add to the list.
QB
Spencer Rattler - 5 star (0.9861) - Az - OU Commit
Grant Gunnel - 4 star (0.9781) - TX - TAMU Commit (No Offer)
Roschon Johnson - 4 star (0.9480) - TX - TX Commit
- Roschon is an impressive dual threat QB who has thrived at Port-Neches Groves both throwing and running the ball. He is an effortless runner with very good speed. He also shows a good ability to throw the ball, including a good deep ball.
Grant Tisdale - 4 star (0.9203) - TX - No Offer
- A very good dual threat QB out of Allen. There isn't much separating Tisdale and Johnson as both are top 10 QBs in the nation. With Roschon in the fold, it is unlikely that Tisdale factors in here but I'm sure Texas will keep in touch just in case.

- Brooks was offered early and has put out multiple rankings list. Some have Texas, some don't. All this after there was chatter about him committing quickly after a Texas visit. I can't find the report, but apparently this kid was kicked off his high school team. TH has said he doesn't want to recruit players with poor attitudes so it'll be interesting to see if we continue to pursue Brooks.
