Heading into our final season in the Big 12, I thought it would be fun to come up with a team consisting of the best Texas players during the Big 12 era.
You can make your team however you see fit with only a couple rules:
1. The player must have played at least 1 season for Texas in the Big 12
2. Roster consists of:
OFFENSE
QB - Vince Young
RB - Ricky Williams
RB - Bijan Robinson
WR - Jordan Shipley
WR - Roy Williams
TE - David Thomas
OT - Leonard Davis
OT - Mike Williams
OG - Justin Blalock
OG - Dan Neil
C - Lyle Sendlein
DEFENSE
DE - Cory Redding
DE - Brian Orakpo
DT - Casey Hampton
DT - Shaun Rogers
LB - Derrick Johnson
LB - DD Lewis
DB - Quentin Jammer
DB - Bryant Westbrook
DB - Earl Thomas
DB - Michael Huff
DB - Michael Griffin
SPECIALISTS
K - Justin Tucker
P - Michael Dickson
KR - Ramonce Taylor
PR - Nathan Vasher
Couple of thoughts.
Some of these were no brainers, while at other spots there were some tough omissions such as RB and DB. I thought long and hard about that 5th DB spot and considered Nathan Vasher and Aaron Ross, but ultimately went with Griff, who I view as the best overall player of those 3. I also considered Phil Dawson at kicker, as he probably had a better overall career than Tucker, but JT gets bonus points for the ACES dagger.
Also, it's staggering how meh our LB's have been outside of DJ. I ultimately went with DD Lewis, because there just isn't much there outside of maybe Jaylon Ford or Jordan Hicks.
