Cliff-notes: Sachse (Texas) High wide receiver Devin Duverney became a late addition to the Texas 2016 recruiting class when he announced his commitment via ESPN on Wednesday morning. Duverney had signed with Baylor, but a paperwork error allowed for his release earlier this month when he decided to pass on attending the school following Art Briles' dismissal.

Key Offers: Before signing with Baylor in February, Duvernay had offers from the likes of Alabama (visited officially), Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State (visited officially), Oklahoma (visited officially), Oregon, TCU, Texas A&M and virtually every school that recruits in the Lone Star State.

Recruiting rankings: Listed at 5-11, 193 pounds,Duvernay is regarded as a high four-star prospect by Rivals that ranks as the No.8 wide receiver and the No.52 overall prospect in the nation from the 2016 class.

Scouting report: As far as I’m concerned, Duvernay is the most electrifying kid in the entire state. Coaches are always looking for kids that can apply pressure to opposing defenses and Duvernay’s ability to touch the ball at any spot on the field and be a threat to score is second to none among his peers in the state of Texas. At 5-11, 193 pounds, he’s not the biggest receiver prospects in this class by a long-shot, but his ability to make plays in space after the catch makes him a different type of receiver, as he’s usually reaching the end zone if he gets a step beyond the defense. Duvernay is still developing his wide receiver skills, but he’s an ace on screens and short throws near the line of scrimmage. If you’re looking for a player comparison, think of a young Percy Harvin from a talent perspective.

Why it matters: Duvernay brings a skill set that the Texas offense desperately needs. Charlie Strong has longed for a kid that he can throw a hitch to in the flat and watch go the distance from anywhere on the field for the last two years. It's tough to know what his role will be as a true freshman, but his presence on the field as a jack-of-all-trades weapon will give the Longhorns some much-needed juice on that side of the field. The talent and need is such that he could emerge as one of the Big 12's most dynamic newcomers on the offensive side of the ball.
