Cliffs Notes: Texas picked up potentially one last high school signing for the Class of 2023, as it flipped four-star safety Warren Roberson (Red Oak, Texas) from his TCU commitment on Tuesday morning.

Rankings: Here's the industry breakdown of Roberson from his recruiting days...

LSR: Low four stars, No.31 in Texas
Rivals: Low 4 stars, No.59 in Texas
ESPN: Low 4 stars, No.68 in Texas
On3: (93) Low 4 stars, No.29 in Texas
247: (90) Low 4 stars, No.55 in Texas
247 composite: (.9120) Low 4 star, No.47 in Texas

Notable offers: TCU, Alabama, Arizona State, Florida State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and USC.

Evaluation: The 6-0, 180-pound Roberson is probably the top safety in the state after five-star Peyton Bowen. Like Bowen, Roberson is just a fantastic football player... one of the best pound for pound football players in the state. As a defensive prospect, Roberson looks as comfortable at cornerback as he does at safety because of really clean man-cover skills. Once the ball is in the air, he has a habit of getting to it. He's also a sideline to sideline pursuer of the football. As an offensive player, he's a major college level receiver that has the ability to make the big play. Throw in the fact that he's a tremendous coverage player and return man on special teams... and you've got a very versatile and talented player.

Player he reminds me of: Adrian Phillips

Why it matters: The Texas coaching staff felt like the recruiting class was a player light in the defensive backfield and in taking Roberson, you're getting a guy that can play all over the secondary. There really wasn't anyone else out there to land in this role, so if you were going to get a high school player from the state of Texas, Roberson was probably the one to take.;

Expectations: Warren might not be a player that makes an instant impact on the defensive side of the ball, but he could play a lot on special teams as a true freshman because he's quite the coverage player. On the defensive side of the ball, I could see him emerging as a starting-level player by the 2025 season and being a multi-year starter by the time his career ends. In this day and age, he's likely to either be starting by 2025 or entering the Portal.

Senior highlights: Enjoy!
