Cliffs notes
: Alvin (Alvin) 2019 cornerback Marques Caldwell became the 12th member of the 2019 Texas recruiting class when he announced his commitment. He’s the third defensive back to commit to the Longhorns.

Rankings:

Key Offers: Once a commitment to Oregon, Caldwell also holds offers from Colorado, Ole Miss, Missouri, TCU and Texas Tech.

Evaluation: In a word, Caldwell can be described like this: playmaker.

Unafraid to hit anyone at any part of the field, Caldwell shows a knack for making plays. His awareness and instincts show both in coverage, and in tackling; he’s always trying to strip the ball, and is pretty successful in doing so. Caldwell’s ball skills stand out, and so does his agility and speed for a taller corner with length. Because of his size and physical nature on the field, Caldwell could line up at safety or corner, and shows on tape an ability to get downhill and also come off the edge as a blitzer.

Why it matters: Caldwell has the appearance of another prospect in Texas that will be moving up rankings lists, and will also see interest from more top programs. After another evaluation, Jason Washington, who has proven to be an excellent position coach and recruiter at Texas, made the move to offer Caldwell, and his commitment gives Texas another versatile, physical defensive back with upside.
