Cliffs Notes: The 2018 Texas recruiting class just grew to 12, and just became a whole lot faster. Trinity (Louisville, Kentucky) WR/RB Rondale Moore announced his commitment to Texas on Twitter.

Rankings: Moore is rated as the No. 4 player in Kentucky, and the No. 18 all-purpose back, according to Rivals.com.

Key offers: Among the schools in Moore’s top group were Ohio State, Penn State, and he also holds offers from Alabama, Georgia, Louisville, Ole Miss, South Carolina and others.

Evaluation: Let’s just get to the point. Moore is fast. Extremely fast. The newest Texas commitment has truly game-changing speed (10.7 100 meters this year; 4.33 40-yard dash verified by Nike), and it translates to domination on the football field.

In addition to elite speed, Moore, listed at 5-9 and 175 pounds, has real football ability; he’s not just a track guy playing football. He shows solid route-running skills and knowledge of space against zone defenses and how to get open, and Moore’s hands are good and his change of direction ability makes him difficult to tackle. Although his size suggests slot receiver all the way, he showed on tape he can be an outside guy if needed.

Once rankings are updated, it would be a surprise if he’s not a four-star, Rivals250 prospect; good luck finding another offensive weapon as fast and explosive as Moore, and with wiggle and route-running to go with it.

Why it matters: Any college offense needs game-breakers that are not only a threat to score each time they touch it or can take the top off the defense, but also can be used in a variety of ways; defenses have to constantly keep an eye on a player like Moore because of his speed.

Plus, Moore’s teammate Stephen Herron, Jr., an elite 2019 defensive end, just visited Texas. Moore’s commitment can only help.

Also worth noting: Moore is Texas’s fifth out of state commitment, which is almost half of the class thus far.
