Cliffs notes: The Longhorns have always wanted to add a slot receiver, and today they added a player capable of filling that when Yoakum (Yoakum) Rivals250 receiver Joshua Moore announced his commitment to Texas. A versatile playmaker that could profile at a number of spots, Moore is the 24th member of the 2018 Texas commitment list.

Rankings: Rivals.com rates Moore as a four-star, the No. 26 receiver, the No. 14 player in Texas and the nation’s No. 150 player overall. Moore is the No. 18 prospect on the 2018 LSR 100.

Key Offers: Moore took official visits to and held offers from Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Oregon. He also received an offer from LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and more.

Evaluation: Moore is a classic example of a playmaker that does it all for his high school team. He’s a dangerous punt returner, receiver, wildcat QB, running back, and also played defense at a high level. Heck, he also plays basketball and ran track. At the next level, his football instincts, speed, athleticism, and agility (3.96 shuttle) will translate well to the slot receiver position, although he has the ball skills and size to move around and also the instincts to get direct snaps. At the Under Armour All-American Game, Moore’s ball skills stood out, and he moved up in the final Rivals250 rankings.

Guys like Moore simply find a way to make plays, and the newest Texas commitment is slippery in the open field and capable of creating open space to make catches at a solid rate.

Why it matters: Texas’s long quest for a talented slot receiver ends with one of the nation’s best, and an in-state playmaker with a decorated high school career.

(Suchomel tells me he could profile as an outside guy too at Texas, but I think he makes a ton of sense in the slot with his short-area quickness and agility)

Enjoy:
