Cliffs Notes: The Longhorns beefed up its depth with the interior defensive line on Monday with the commitment of Arizona defensive tackle Bill Norton.

Resume: Was a 13-game starter for Arizona at nose-tackle in 2023. Recorded 32 tackles, (14 solo) and 2.5 tackles for loss in 2023. Norton spent four seasons at Georgia from 2019-2022, before transferring to Arizona in December of 2022. Played in 13 games as a reserve defensive lineman for Georgia in 2022 during its national championship run.

Evaluation: Norton is an early-down interior defensive lineman, who eats up space, holds down the point of attack against the run and does a good job allowing the linebackers behind him to run free to the football. He's not a big producer from the nose-tackle spot, but he's played a bunch of football against high-level teams. When he's not playing well (which happened on occasion in 2023), it's usually because his stiffness as an athlete gets the best of him and doesn't display good footwork. He's a borderline plus-player at the high collegiate level at his position and is probably the best true nose-tackle on the Texas roster going into the 2024 season.

Why it matters: The Longhorns want to both upgrade the depth and talent going into the season at this position and Norton represents both. He's not going to be one of the very best nose-tackles in the SEC, but he'll be among the top half of the players in the conference and that's not something that the Longhorns had before his commitment.

Expectations: I fully expect Norton to start at nose-tackle for the Longhorns in his final season of football in 2024 and he'll likely play anywhere between 300-400 snaps on this defense.
