Cliffs-notes: Atascocita (Humble) offensive lineman Samuel Cosmi became the 16th member of the 2017 Texas recruiting class when he flipped his commitment from Houston to Texas after the Longhorns offered late last week.

Rankings: Cosmi is currently rated as a three-star prospect (5.6 Rivals Rating) by Rivals.com.

Key offers: In addition to Texas and Houston, Cosmi also was offered by TCU last week, and holds an offer from Memphis.

Evaluation: Listed at 6-5, 260 pounds, Cosmi definitely has room for growth in terms of weight gain in both the lower and upper halves; his body looks more power forward than college offensive lineman. However, Cosmi plays with impressive strength on tape, particularly in his punch, when he initiates contact out of his stance, and when he uses his length and strength when he establishes quality hand position and leverage. He seems to understand how to use his length, and how to also come out of his stance quickly and engage a defender before quickly getting into a quality position.

Cosmi plays with a solid motor, a bit of a mean streak, and has some athleticism and agility in the open field as a blocker in the screen game or as a pulling blocker.

Basically, he's an intriguing prospect that could look dramatically different after a year in college, and could make a difference at right tackle if he's able to get up to 300 pounds or close to it.

Why it matters: Cosmi appears like, if he develops, a future contributor at right tackle. Anytime a program can get that in the form of a 6-5 or 6-6 prospect with length, strength, and agility, that's a good thing. Plus, Texas needed to finish this cycle with more than one offensive linemen committed.
