Cliffs notes
: The Texas Signing Day train keeps chuggin’ along, and Texas added another talented defensive lineman when Oak Ridge (Conroe) 2018 prospect Joseph Ossai announced his commitment to Texas. Ossai is the 27th member of the 2018 Texas recruiting class.

Rankings: Rivals.com rates Jones as a four-star prospect, the No. 14 weakside defensive end, and the No. 31 player in Texas. The LSR 100 ranks Ossai as the No. 34 prospect in the Lone Star State.

Key Offers: Notre Dame, Oregon, and Texas A&M all received official visits from Ossai, and he was also offered by Baylor, Alabama, LSU, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, and others.

Evaluation: Ossai gives you a taste of quickness, speed, and explosive power out of a tall, long frame and a skill-set that really projects to improve at the next level. A talented track athlete that competed in the long jump, 110-meter hurdles, and 300-meter hurdles, the newest Longhorn from the Houston area shows some quick-twitch athleticism. He looks like an ideal fit for Todd Orlando’s B-backer position because of his future ability to stand up or play with his hand down.

With more technique work and some time to physically mature, Ossai has the potential to turn into a real pass-rushing weapon.

Why it matters: Although the Texas defensive line class has grown nicely over the last couple of months, it still needed to add a pass-rusher.
