Cliff-notes: The Longhorns landed another 2017 commitment, and another big guy when All Saints Episcopal (Fort Worth) defensive end Max Cummins tweeted his commitment to Texas. He's the 14th member of Texas' 2017 class.

Rankings: Cummins is currently rated as a two-star prospect by Rivals.com.

Key Offers: Once a Connecticut commit, Cummins' recruitment started to pick up recently with an offer from Baylor yesterday and recent offers from Houston and Central Florida.

Evaluation: Currently under-the-radar, Cummins is an intriguing prospect with his size, athleticism, versatility, and strength. Listed at 6-5, 245 pounds, Cummins is being recruited by Texas as a defensive end, and it's where he stands out most on tape. All Saints lined him up inside, outside, and also standing up off the edge. Inside, his first step and athleticism beat interior linemen; outside, he shows a noticeable punch out of his stance and the speed to get around the edge with a solid motor.

He looks like a redshirt candidate that could add a lot of weight and strength and occupy the strongside end position. Although, it'll be interesting to see what his body looks like in college because I'm not sure if the body projects to add enough weight to fill a strongside position.

Why it matters: With Texas' defensive end recruiting a bit of an uncertainty after LaGaryonn Carson, the Longhorns needed to add another body along the defensive line that fits what they do on offense.
