Cliffs Notes: The Longhorns picked up one of the most important commitments in the 2024 class with the announcement from five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo that he intends to play for Steve Sarkisian and Co. on Wednesday.

Rankings: Here's the industry breakdown...

Rivals: (6.1) 5 star, No.19 overall nationally, No.2 in Missouri
ESPN: (87) High 4 star, No.27 overall nationally, No.2 in Missouri
On3: (93) Low 4-star, No.92 overall nationally, No.4 in Missouri
247: (98) 5 stars, No.5 overall nationally, No.2 in Missouri
247 composite: (.9880) 5 stars, No.24 overall nationally, No.2 in Missouri

Notable offers: Georgia (6/2 OV), Michigan (6/9 OV), Missouri (6/23 OV), Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC.

Evaluation: The 6-2, 195-pound Wingo is a simply a man among boys in the state of Missouri as a prep player, as his size and strength as an athlete makes him a physical handful for all of his opponents, but when you add in his 10.67 100-meter speed, you're suddenly dealing with a manimal. His size makes him a perfect target over the middle on slants and post-routes because he's so much stronger than the defensive backs he faces in high school and most of the ones he'll see on Saturdays. Yet, it's his speed at his size that makes him a potentially special player. When he gets a step on a defender, that defender is almost always toast. We're talking about a guy that's a threat to score every time he touches the football.

Why it matters: It ain't about the Xs and Os as much as its about the Jimmys and the Joes. Wingo is one of the five best prospects in the nation at his position and one of the top two players in the state of Missouri, which is a state the Longhorns haven't had a lot of success recruiting in the past. This could open the doors for the Longhorns to be a much bigger factor in the city of St. Louis, which would could make the city similar to Orlando moving forward.

Expectations: Wingo could walk in as a day-one starter in 2024 if the Longhorns lose its top three receivers to the NFL after this season. A Wingo/Johntay Cook pairing could end up being the future of the Texas passing game.
