Hey all, just wanted to provide you with an update before I post another film breakdown tomorrow. Been waiting a couple of days to post because I wanted things to settle in more, but here is what is going on in the transfer portal for MBB.

TARGETS

Julian Phillips, W/F, Tennessee (incoming sophomore)

Julian Phillips is a defensive specialist of a wing that still possesses some solid offensive attributes. A five-star recruit, Phillips last season with the Vols averaged 8.3 points and 4.7 rebounds per game, tacking on 1.4 assists, plus half a steal and half a block. While these numbers don't jump off the page, make no mistake: Phillips is a highly valuable player.

Take into consideration Texas' lack of depth at the wing spot and you'll see why this recruitment is even more important. Phillips would be an immediate starter at that position (yes, I know, position-less basketball). He's a dynamic athlete, good at following up rebounds for put-backs.

Though he shot only 23% from deep, he still shot 81.2% from the line, which makes me believe he has the potential to be a good shooter from the outside. Mostly, though, Texas could use Phillips as a Ronald Holland replacement, a five-star type of talent at a very important position.

Texas' main competitors here are Kansas State, Auburn, and the NBA Draft, though I have heard he will return to play another year of college ball.

Jaylin Sellers, G, Ball State (incoming junior)

Sellers played for Ball State for the last two years, and was an all-MAC third team this past season. The 6'4 combo guard put up 13.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game last season, with six games where he scored over 20 points. Sellers' biggest asset is his deep shooting – 45% on threes – and his overall efficiency scoring the basketball.

He shot 49% overall FG% and 75.7% from the line. He's in the 91st percentile in jump shooting and the same in shooting off the catch. He is truly a sniper, and every team can use a guy that can strike from downtown as often as Sellers did last season (3.9 attempts/game).

Sellers is currently visiting UCF, and Mississippi State is also another big player in this recruitment.

Tyrin Lawrence, G, Vanderbilt

I'm not going to get your hopes up about Tyrin Lawrence, a scoring guard who can play off-ball as well. Right now it seems to be between Texas Tech, Auburn, Memphis, and a return to Vanderbilt. He was just a guy that Texas targeted, so I included his name.

RETURNING PLAYERS UPDATE

Tyrese Hunter
will be making his decision very soon on whether he will come back and play for the Longhorns, according to Rodney Terry recently. I have a good feeling about this one.

Dillon Mitchell has been showing out in the NBA Combine, dominating a shooting drill from deep where he at one point was 8/9. Don't expect Mitchell to come back.
