Love this state and its history. A friend of mine’s family was honored at the State Capitol today for owning land in Texas since 1854. I just thought that was awesome and I’m sure some of you have them beat.
If you or your family has owned a little(or big) slice of this great state for a long time, let’s hear about it. Tell us some stories.
I don’t currently own any ranch or farm land here but my family used to own a lot of property in Wilbarger county. The first piece of land was purchased by my great great grandparents around 1895. It all started with GG grandfather wanting to purchase a place on the Pease River. He didn’t have the money for the whole piece of land but his wife had been saving money(unbeknownst to him) by selling eggs and giving piano lessons. She had enough to cover the rest that he didn’t have.
The piano set in my grandmother’s house until she passed in 2015. It now sits in the Wilbarger County Museum. The property was sold(along with a lot more) in the late 1990’s.
