HORNS v POKES.

Big conference implications this weekend as two of the top Big 12 teams meet in Austin for a weekend series. Oklahoma State enters the weekend ranked #14 in the nation and looking to help bolster their resume for as a Regional host and continue to position themselves as a Big 12 title contender. The Horns enter the weekend once again needing to win a series to help bolster their resume and RPI so that they can make it into the NCAA tourney.

Going into the weekend the Horns sit just one game back of 2nd place Oklahoma State and West Virginia, and two games back of 1st place Oklahoma. West Virginia is playing Cincinnati this weekend, while Oklahoma is in Lubbock to take on Texas Tech. The Horns RPI is currently sitting at 55. With a series victory against Oklahoma State, they could massively boost their chances of not only getting into the NCAA tournament, but begin positioning themselves as a 2 seed, instead of a 3 seed.

Both teams enter the series swinging the bat well. Okie State is averaging 14.6 runs over their past five games and have four batters that have double digit home runs.

This weekend will be in the low 80's with a chance of rain all weekend long. The highest chance of rain is on Sunday though, so we will have to see how or if it plays a factor this weekend as well.

Overall, Oklahoma State has been rolling the past week, but did lose their last Big 12 road series against Kansas State. In addition, Oklahoma State is just 9-8 on the season in road games.

Here is a comparison of the Horns record through 46 games in a season during Coach Pierce's tenure at Texas. Overall, this season is the 2nd worst in his tenure at Texas, but just behind prior years.
