BOX SCORE

Winning Pitcher: Andre Duplantier (2-0)
Losing Pitcher: Cooper Moore (1-3)

Horns win it via walk off for the second night in a row, improving to 34-20 overall and 19-10 in Big 12 play.

RECAP

In the Top 2nd, the Jayhawks took advantage of a lead off walk to drive in a run with 2 outs to take the early 1-0 lead. That lead did not last long though as the Horns get the run back in the Bottom 2nd, when Casey Borba scored from 2B on an errant throw to 1B as the pitcher tried to pick off Rylan Galvan.

The game was then scoreless until the Top 7th as the Jayhawks and Horns blundered about offensively. In the Top 7th though, the Jayhawks took the lead as 9 hole hitter Koszewski got a 2 out single and was then driven in by lead off hitter John Nett as he hit a double to right CF, giving the Jayhawks a 2-1 lead.

In the Bottom 9th, Rylan Galvan led off the inning with a sharply struck ball right to the SS for an out. Will Gasparino then followed that up with a 10 pitch at-bat where he drew a walk to give the Horns some hope. David Pierce decided to pinch hit for Dee Kennedy, bringing in Jack O’Dowd as Coach stated that he had made some adjustments to his load and really liked what he saw earlier today during BP. Much like last night, O’Dowd came through with a single through the right side, putting runners on the corners with just one out.

That brought snake farm, aka Jared Thomas to the plate who hit a screaming liner through the left side that sliced passed the SS for an RBI single, then advancing to 2B on the throw. For the second night in a row, that brought Jalin Flores to the plate, this time with 1 out and runners on 2B and 3B. On a 1-1 fastball, Flores drove a deep fly ball to CF where it was caught, but that sac fly allowed Jayden Duplantier to tag and score from 3B for a walk off win.

After the game, Coach Pierce said that having the 1-2 punch of Jared Thomas and Jalin Flores is just special, stating that when the lights come on, the at is when they are at their best.

BIG MOMENT

In the Bottom of the 9th with 1 out and runners on 2B and 3B, Jalin Flores strode to the plate and on a 1-1 count, hit a deep fly ball to CF for a sac fly, scoring Jayden Duplantier to win it.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE

Andre Duplantier came into the game in the Top 7th inning after Kansas had taken to get the final out of that frame, sat the Jayhawks down in order in the Top 8th, and then got a massive strikeout with 2 outs and runners on 2B and 3B in the Top 9th.

Dre went 2.1 IP, giving up 2 hits, and striking out 5, earning the win. Though partially self inflicted, the strikeout in the Top 9th kept the Horns in the game and gave them the opportunity to win it in the Bottom 9th.

TAKEAWAYS

Wow. When is the last time that the Horns had a player walk it off in back to back nights? Heck, when is the last time that the Horns have had back to back nights with a walk off win.

A lot of resiliency shown by the Horns again tonight, especially after doing nothing all night offensively.

As ugly as it was at times….sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy the end result. 6 straight conference series wins by the Horns.

NEXT UP

Horns will look for their first Big 12 conference sweep tomorrow at 230pm.
