If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nicolas de Chamfort
We sometimes find it difficult to accept a compliment. Maybe we don't consider ourselves worthy, so like one of Pavlov's little dogs, we react by deflecting, listing the reasons the compliment is just not true. Modesty is one thing, but failing to love ourselves is quite another. Besides, if we refuse the compliment, we basically tell the other person they're wrong. Good job!
Jesus told us to love our neighbors as ourselves. "Love one another" was His "new" commandment. But before we can love another person, we must convince ourselves that we're worthy of that same love. We need to stop thinking that we have no value, that we are undeserving. Maybe try a simple "Thank you" the next time you receive a compliment. Let that be your first step in building up courage and worth. Every time we do that, we'll find our self-love growing.
We weren't put here to become part of the scrap heap.
God bless the broken roads that brought us all together here.
Miss you, DD. Always.
