To ease another's heartache is to forget one's own.
~~~~~Abraham Lincoln
Last year at this same time, Bonnie Raitt was awarded the Grammy for Song of the Year, entitled "Just Like That," a song she wrote after hearing a human interest story about a woman who had donated her son's heart after he had died. The woman was about to meet the person who had received the heart. Raitt said she wanted to write a song about "what that would take." The song tells the story of the mother and the recipient meeting in person. She gets to be with her son one more time because of the kindness of this stranger who has tracked her down.
The final verse tells the listener:
Just like that your life can change, look what the angels send
I lay my head upon his chest, and I was with my boy again
I spent so long in darkness, I never thought the night would end
But somehow Grace has found me
And I had to let him in.
Two lives were saved with that one heart. When Grace finds us, we need the good sense to let Him in.
Blessings all.
