A few years ago in Baltimore, Kim Morton got a text from her neighbor across the street, telling her to look outside. When she did, she found that he had strung Christmas lights from his house to hers, and had left a container of homemade cookies on her porch. Kim was facing some serious challenges including a death in her family, and as the neighbor explained, the lights were to show her that his family and Kim's were always connected. A nice gesture, but neither of them could predict what happened next. To cut to the chase, over the next few days the whole neighborhood got into the act, and before long nearly every house was "connected" to one across the street. Kim said "It made me look up, literally and figuratively, above everything that was dragging me down. The light pushed away the darkness."
Wouldn't it be great if we had something like that? You know, some place we could go and share joys and concerns, and lift each other up. Yeah, that would be great (think Lumbergh in Office Space). Good morning, fellow "Gifters." Grab a string of lights and let's get started.
