Some people care too much. I think it's called love.
~~~~~~~~ Winnie the Pooh
Not all that long ago, the term "heartbroken" was merely a word used to describe profound sadness. Then along came Dr. Hikaru Soto, a Japanese cardiologist, who in 1990 reported the curious case of a female patient who had signs and symptoms of a heart attack, but tested negative for it. Further study revealed that the left ventricle of her heart had changed shape during the episode, and resembled a "takotsubo," a traditional octopus trap. A more rigorous study in 2001 confirmed Sato's observations, and also highlighted the common factor of severe emotional distress in these patients. "Takotsubo Syndrome" --- a broken heart--- is a real thing.
Most of us have probably experienced a heartbreak or two over the years. They can be hard to get over. Romans 8: 38-39 reminds us that "...neither life nor death, nor angels nor principalities...nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any created thing, shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus...." That about covers it.
Grace and Peace,
NT
