Texas Longhorns cornerback Terrance Brooks is in the portal. It's a significant loss.
The third year corner started to come into his own toward the end of last season becoming one of the few reliable cornerbacks on the team. Because of his development trajectory I viewed him as a player who could break out in the upcoming season. It appears that won't happen at Texas.

Most didn't view him as highly heading out of the spring. Perhaps the Texas coaching staff didn't either. Brooks was at one point rumored to have lost starting reps to veteran Jahdae Barron cross training between his usual spot at nickel corner and on the outside.
The loss for Texas means it no longer has the big cornerback it needs on the side Brooks occupied. Matchup wise that's suboptimal for the Longhorns secondary. The loss of Brooks' versatility will need to be addressed. Fortunately, there is an option worth watching in the portal.
Arizona cornerback Tacario Davis is still in the transfer portal after a strong season for the Wildcats. He led the Pac-12 last season in pass breakups (15) and earned the highest Pro Football Focus grade (82.6) of any Pac-12 cornerback in 2023.
Unequivocally, he would be a welcomed upgrade for Texas in the portal. According to 247Sports he and Cormani McClain (Colorado) are the only Top 10 portal cornerbacks that are not committed to a team.

It's difficult to see any other available cornerback becoming a starter from what is available right now. Should Texas fail to sign Davis, it might need someone with starting ability to enter the portal that hasn't already.
Texas will look to address its cornerback need in the near future.
