The Longhorns (6-1, 1-0) interrupt conference play to take on Lamar (1-6) Tuesday at 4:00. Due to pandemic scheduling, 2 of Lamar's losses have been to aggy. After a few Longhorn returns on the schedule (Travis Mays, Amie Smith-Bradley and Jamie Carey), Lamar assistant Empress Davenport can be added to the list. This will also have a strong connection to Vic Schaefer - Lamar University head coach Aqua Franklin was found in an open gym session and recruited by Vic then was a 4-year starter when he was an assistant at aggy. She was also a member of the coaching staff he assembled when he became head coach at Mississippi State for the 1st 3 years.
Texas is 6-2 all time vs Lamar. The Cardinals do a fairly good job of not turning the ball over (13.4 per game) but will be facing a Longhorn team that forces 24.9 (5th nationally) and converts those into 29+ points a game. Lamar has had a tough time shooting (33.9% ) on the season with just 1 player averaging more than 10 points a game, junior G Amber Hastings (11.1). That is largely a result of Hastings being a volume shooter with almost twice as many shot attempts as the next player on the roster and is only hitting 25.6% of those. Lamar is also undersized compared to Texas with only 2 players taller than 6': 6' 1" and 6' 2" getting any minutes (no starts).

- Texas has been drawing charges at a rate of 3.6 per game (25 in 7 games) with Audrey Warren accounting for almost 50% (12).
- Indications before the holiday break were that sophomore G Celeste Taylor would be back from a foot injury suffered a few weeks ago in practice. While her scoring (13.4) and defense (3.6 steals) are needed, Texas should be able to more than handle Lamar and give her another few days to heal completely.
