The Longhorns (7-0) will be seeking their 4th consecutive win in their long-running rivalry with the Tennessee Lady Vols (9-0). Tennessee leads the overall series 23-15.

Tennessee is very talented but also very young. In a strange series of events, senior G Diamond DeShields, the Vols’ leading scorer last season and daughter of Delino, announced her decision to return to Knoxville in early April rather than enter the WNBA draft as a draft eligible junior. She changed her mind in June and, although too late to enter the WNBA draft, signed a professional contract to play in Turkey this year. Tennessee had the #1 recruiting class last year and is still being being led by a couple of very talented upperclassmen. Seniors C Mercedes Russell (6-6) and F Jaime Nared (6-2) lead the Vols in scoring and rebounding.

The Longhorn senior guards McCarty and Atkins, arguably the best backcourt in the country, are tied for the team lead in scoring at 13.4 pts/game. Texas is shooting lights out from beyond the arc:
McCarty 15-34, 48.4%
Atkins 12-20, 60.0%
Sutton 8-17, 47.1%
Texas has averaged +18 on the boards but it has been a team effort - no individual Longhorn averages more than Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau’s 5.9 rebounds/game.

This will be the Longhorns’ second consecutive road game versus an undefeated SEC opponent (Georgia). Tennessee is actually one of the few teams that will have a size advantage at almost every starting position against Texas and Coach Aston’s squad will be playing in front of a large, loud Tennessee fan base against the highest ranked opponent of the season thus far.
