Yeah, makes me an official old. Watched it with my late dad. The eyes of not only Texas, but truly the nation were on that game and those teams. Late in the third quarter, as the Hogs were stuffing the Wishbone yet again, I recall my dad saying “well, it just doesn’t look like the ‘Horns’ day.” It had been a truly depressing game to that point, especially for a kid who had followed every play of that glorious — ‘til then — season (mostly by listening on the radio). The ‘Horns were down by two touchdowns, with the offense going nowhere and in the process of turning the ball over an incredible six times. But dad must’ve had a brilliant reverse jinx in mind. Just a couple of plays later, Street took off on his long run to the end zone . . . and the rest, as they say, is history.
