World Cup (me, freeper and Old man astro with occasional MM kickball reference lol) Thread

If you watched this Final and still soccer is boring, you’re just being obtuse at this point.

Imagine watching this game and thinking soccer is boring then turning on Steelers-Panthers and thinking that’s some exciting shit 😂
The soccer score for football fans was 21-21 end of regulation. OT it ended up being 28-14. There a high scoring game.

This game (or match?) was riveting - outstanding drama! As your once every 4 year fan correspondent - the problem is this doesn’t translate into interest in FC Dallas. And I’ve tried. Probably like people that just tune into the NBA when the playoffs start. But for one month, and especially this game today - this was as good as it gets. And FWIW - Mbappi > Messi.

FCD and MLS are a tough watch sometimes. I hardly watch FCD. I do however watch the Prem and Bundesliga.

This will get a few more folks excited about MLS though. Even though the play is mediocre there will be sense of pride in community.

Yeah, MBappe has a ways to go. But he definitely could be better than Messi when all is said and done.

That final was an absolute thriller! Coming from a casual fan, I knew I was seeing an instant classic.

I only watch World Cups starting in 1998, but almost nothing else soccer related. This final and the quarterfinals in the knockout stage more riveting than everything else I had seen before combined.

Question for the core soccer folks: How does a traditional power like Italy miss out on 2018 and 2022 World Cups and win 2020 Euros?

Well, Italy tied Bulgaria at home and couldn't beat Switzerland at home so Swiss won their group. Then they lost to freaking North Macedonia at home in the playoff and they're out. No excuse to be honest.

I will say, Italy are kind of in a crossroads development wise. They're starving for a World Class midfielder and they don't have a CF.

I'm not much of a soccer fan myself but that final yesterday was as entertaining as any sporting event I have ever watched in my life!

When teams open up and legitimately attack the opponents final 1/3rd it is exciting to watch. Yesterday you had two teams trying to score as many goals as possible...that is fun shit, even if the score ends up 1-1.

A team like Spain is only fun when they are cooking in the final 1/3rd...otherwise it is boring as shit because they just ping the ball around with no real threat.

So I'm in France right now. Paris-- dustrcut 12 to be exact-- about 400m from the Bastille monument. Yes @freeper --- I know all about it-- but feel free to enlighten the historically obtuse in here... The people in Paris are down. Way down. I was in St. Gery watching the final-- I watched the semi-final in Strasbourg. It's 8:30 here now and I just finished a tour of the Louvre followed by some BAD ASS hand made Chinese noodles. I took of photo of the Mona Lisa and dud the hook'em Horns at the Venus di Milo... let me see if I can post here.

Dude, I didn't know you had a thing for half naked amputees.

I was terribly disappointed in the Mona Lisa when I saw it. On the other hand, I was able to slide out of the crowd and just down the hall was the magnificent Jacques-Louis David painting, Coronation of Napoleon. I was able to just stand there alone, taking it all in, a massive work of art. I was completely undisturbed by the crowd of people crushing each other to get to the Mona Lisa.

My favorite was the second painting. I did enjoy the coronation of Napoleon.

It's my 2nd trip here and this time the "crowd" was smaller- but the whole experience was just---- meh. It's like going to a fvcking shopping mall to look at art.

For others, I am staying in District 11-- not 10-- where the shooting was today. Some of you knuckleheads emailed me like "clob-- you weren't involved in that shooting were you?".

No-- went to dinner last night at a freaking BAD ASS noodle shop about 3 blocks away. Nouille Vivant or some sh!t. Hand made. D-Lish

Did 3 nights up in Switz with a camping outreach program for little tykes. (Tax deduction)
Drove to Nice for 3 days on the rock st9ne beach. Now in Paris.

Hoping AA doesn't cancel my flight home.

I prefer the rock stone beaches there. I hate sand so it was perfect for my crew, especially when parasailing. Did you stay at the Negresco?

We’d go every July around the 4th and make an evening out of Monaco. We’d eat dinner on Av. des Spélugues down from the casino overlooking the park. Take a walk down to the famous hairpin turn Station before getting in our BMW rentals and driving as much of the track as we could. Then head back to Nice to get hammered and watch the sun rise. At the time, you cold buy Heine’s from a vending machine for 2 euro. Ahhh, those were the days lol

Hope you enjoyed your time there, one of my fav places on earth. Merry Christmas Eve all and thanks for a trip down memory lane Clob. Safe travels on your return…

Now if only my power will come back on!

Westminster hotel and spa. Two hotels down from the Negresco. Nice hotel. Posh-- but not TOO bourgeoisie-- sorry- boozgie-- and yes, I grabbed me a few stones from the beach. Went to dinner in Monte Carlo at Beef Bar-- because.... beef.... was not impressed. Got asked why I was wearing ostrich boots by a guy at the table next to me. I told him I killed the ostrich, skinned it, ate it, and brought the hide back to Texas to be made into boots. My girl kept a straight face through it all and the dude that asked looked appalled.

Been in Paris for a few days. Tried to throw my nephew's elf on the shelf, rigged with a HAHO chute, off the eiffel tower-- was stopped by the Gendarme-- let me grab a photo of the rigging.

Here's a photo.

I was pissed. Couldn't find a way to toss the elf off. I had a small cam I was going to attach to his chest. It was going to be an EPIC base jump. ****ing cops were EVERYWHERE though.

Just stay out of the Kurdish side of town. Evidently it’s pretty sketchy over there right now since the shooting yesterday.
We need you around for the spring practice insider report.
