That one hurt. Texas had all the momentum but Silas hitting into a double play with the bases loaded in the 8th was a back breaker. In my opinion, Nixon should have not come back out for the 9th and Texas should have gone to Harrison, but if Nixon is "the guy", you have to trust him to some extent and let him work. Surprisingly, neither Campbell nor Hansen were sharp last night as both were touched up for multiple home runs. Hansen struggled to locate his changeup and his slider was not quite as sharp has it had been in previous outings. After some early success with his curveball, Campbell struggled to use it as an out pitch as he labored through 5 innings where the Horns really made him work deep into counts.
Today Texas is going against another good arm, but one that has nowhere near the stuff of Campbell. Osmond has had a bit of a roller coaster season as evidenced by his 3-1 record with a 4.40 ERA, but he is highly thought of with a very lively fastball, so Texas hitters will need to stay locked in. There is no time to rest and reflect, the Horns have to jump back out there and try to get an early lead today. The good news is that the Horns saw every single plus arm from Okie State's bullpen. The bad news is that McClean could definitely be used again today if needed. Texas has to come out with their hair on fire and act like this is a must win game at all costs because it truly is if they still want to take the series and continue to have hopes for a Top 8 seed.
