Now that signing day is over, we have an even better idea of what positions may be thin in 2020 and beyond. I wanted to make a thread to discuss which position could most benefit from a grad transfer or JUCO graduate.

WR - Texas is losing it's top 2 WRs to graduation and has unproven underclassmen looking to fill the void. Brennan Eagles is the most seasoned player at the position and that isn't necessarily a great thing. Malcolm Epps may be moving back to TE leaving players like Jake Smith, Alvonte Woodard and Marcus Washington as players who saw decent reps in 2019.

Michigan WR Tarik Black is a name to know. He has two years of eligibility left. His Michigan career has been hampered by injuries but he was healthy in 2019.

O-line - Not as critical but always helpful to add a fully mature and developed body upfront. Texas is needing to replace guard Parker Braun, Center Zack Shackelford (or perhaps RT Derek Kerstetter who may move to center). They could benefit from a player with experience at any O-line position.

LB - This becomes less critical after Texas and Juwan Mitchell repaired their relationship and he withdrew from the portal. Still, LB continues to be a position of need and one that could quickly be in trouble if injuries strike.

DB - I don't think a grad transfer makes much sense given the current level of talent but maybe a JUCO player with 2-3 years remaining. This would help bridge the possible gap of talent that could be left after the rising seniors graduate, especially if any of the uber talented juniors leave for the NFL early.

What do yall think?

If we've signed a 5 star running back, we better get some five star offensive linemen to block for him. Games are won and lost in the trenches.
Full stop.

And after 3 years of watching him you're not going to have a good ol if Derek Kerstetter is in the starting lineup.

Do you know how many 5 star OL there were in 2020. 2. They both stayed in their home states to play for CFP contenders in tOSU and UGA.
Full stop.

Pointed taken however. We need more elite OL. I responded to this somewhat already in the other thread. 2021 has 5 5 star OTs and 2 are from Texas. Texas landing both would be great but unfortunately Tommy Brockermeyer seems to be looking at all the current powerhouses. Savion Byrd on the other hand is very high on Texas.

WR, OL, LB. Any of those three could use a starting caliber player.
WR- I am a believer in Smith/Washington/Woodard/Whittington as solid enough to fill the voids left by Duvernay and Johnson, BUT if there are a couple injuries, we could be in trouble.
OL- Texas needs a good interior player. Imade hasn’t shown that he can take the next step and there isn’t anyone other than him that is ready. Bring in a Guard or a Center to push for playing time.
LB- A lot of young talent, but again, injuries could ruin the production here. I wouldn’t be against bringing in two bodies

This site has some good breakdowns of possible LB transfers. I imagine he will tackle other positions soon as well.

I read on another site that Whittington has himself listed as a WR on his twitter account. Overshown has been moved to LB.

Tre Sermon isn’t a grad transfer but he entered the transfer portal and will leave ou. He is a very good back (except for when Malcom Roach got a hold of him a couple times). He is a strong runner and will make somebody a good running back. @Belldozer1

As I posted on the Sooner board, as a true freshman Sermon was a beast, for whatever reason he seems to do better as the number 2 back. Has great hands catching the ball. My only knock on him is that he is really slow accelerating out of the backfield. If he could get out quicker he’d be one of the top backs in the league maybe. So with his season ending injury last year, did he lose a step?

A family member of Whittington told me he’s healed up and has been moved to wr.
