Let’s not forget Johntay Cook. He could be special before it’s over. Best route runner we’ve ever had coming in as a freshman.
As big of a Quinn fan as i am, id say offensively Sark had huge issues last year with stalling towards the end of the game. If anything Defense looked more improved last year.
Tom Herman had back to back top 3 recruiting classes. Bringing in talent has never been the issue. Like you said, the main issue is developing the talent.
What is it with hot shot OC’s like Herman and Sark, that struggle with calling their own plays when they become HC?
I am just spit balling, but it seems that having a decent OL/DL aids in the success of everybody else and let's the 5* shine so to speak. All of a sudden, your LBs and DBs are better on defense and your QBs, RBs and WRs are better on offense
We kinda already have. ‘22 defense ranked in the high 20s, vs high 90s in ‘21. That’s massive improvement.
Foster had all kinds of talent and I felt that he and Stearns were casualties not only of their own attitudes and choices but also of a coaching staff that failed to hold them to a meaningful level of accountability and failed to develop them in a meaningful way too.
I think having staff continuity is huge and this staff has now been together for 3 years and I think both the offense and defense will be very solid this season. I think to that picking up the former Wisconsin coach who is great with run schemes will help this offense as well.
We have very good backs but obviously losing to guys averaging basically 6 yds per carry is virtually impossible to do.
Everyone is talking about Brook's and of course the freshman sensation Baxter out of Florida who is extremely talented, but I still am very high on Blue and think he can be elite.
Like Quinn he really didn't play for an entire year and was rated as the #1 back in the country and we saw glimpses as to what he could do in the spring game.
And Keilan is in the mix too and will be targeted for around 5 to 9 touches' a game. The backfield is loaded with talent and the new guy from Wisconsin will make the run game better. I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform.

Its pretty crazy to say, especially after Roschon and Bijan just left, but Texas might have the best and deepest RB room in the country with: Baxter, Blue, Brooks, and Robinson. Just an insane amount of talent at RB and not sure how you are able to get all of them touches every game. Its definitely a good problem to have!
This right here. I played LB in HS and College and the big nasty’s were the key to being able to make plays at or near the line of scrimmage.
For perspective, in HS I played MLB and we ran a 4-3. My defensive line was LDE - 205lbs (mean bastard), LT - 215lbs (couldn’t bust a grape in a fruit fight), RT 235lbs (short, strong as shit and mean - never got pushed back), RDE - 330lbs (this was Mike Williams of UT OL fame and while he was meant to be an OT, he was never moved backwards). Do you know who the toughest OL I faced all year was? Our LT. And I faced him every single game. He was undersized and soft and was constantly being pushed into my lap. Our ends and right tackle were good a pleasure to scrape behind but this cat impacted my ability to make plays to his side.
In college I played OLB and played behind an all conference d end and a really solid tackle that rarely missed responsibilities. They made my life quite enjoyable allowing me to fly to the ball.
All this to say the big nastys are where success begins. A stud LB or RB will still be a stud but having the beef is paramount to real success.
We were 19th in the country in red zone percentage last year at 90%. Our problems werent scoring in the red zone, it was more a problem of not getting into the red zone. We did a pretty good job of scoring once we got inside the 20.
In the 2nd half of games we had a ton of 3 and outs.
Top issues ...2nd half offensive adjustments and defense getting off the field on 3rd downs. Especially 3rd and long. Get that fixed and a good kicking game and we in business.
We are ok from the 10 to the 20. But we got stuffed how many times at the goal line last year?

Not sure of the numbers inside the 10. I’d be curious to see those myself, but we were pretty good at scoring once we got inside the 20. Our issues were more so 3 and outs in the 2nd half. We had multiple games where we had 5+ 3 and outs in the 2nd half.
The redzone numbers are a product of the 2nd half offense. While everyone's at it, compare the first half redzone trips too the 2nd half. We literally piss allover ourselves in the 2nd half when it comes to offense.
The good thing is that last season wasn’t anywhere close to how bad it was in the ‘21 season.
you are right there...progress is progress. Which is why i believe we are the real deal this year boys. Our offense will finally show what Sark has wanted to show all along. Our defense will continue the upward trend and figure out how to be a championship level defense. I pushed all my chips in. We will win the Big 12 championship this year and either finish 5th just missing the playoffs or 4th and get the last spot. going 11-1 in the regular season and get this. I dont think Bama is the game we lose. I just cant decide which but i know it will be some dumb let down game.
There weren't many games where we made multiple trips to the RZ in the 2nd half. But overall our RZ numbers were really damn good for the season as a whole. Finishing inside the top 20 is a lot better than I would have thought before I looked it up the other day.
Here's what I've found thus far--
We made 10 FG this past year after being inside the 10.
We had 8 TD passes after being inside the 10 yd line.
We scored on 4th down 3 times inside the 5.
I'm going to do some more looking but I can distinctly remember being stuffed by teams at the goal line over and over again as we tried to punch it in. Maryland comes to mind.
My point is, a really good team gets you down inside the 10 and just runs you over. They punish you.
You remember all those times we'd bring in Henry Melton at the goal line and just let him punish ppl?
We don't have that anymore. We zone block. Nobody gets heavy on the oline.
Not sure if you were talking about the past or not but Maryland was from back in the Herman years. You just triggered my PTSD talking about those games lol
