I can't believe there's no post congratulating the Women's Volleyball team on exorcising the Gator demon and advancing to the NCAA Championship Semi-Finals for the 7th time in 8 years. Having lost to Florida earlier this year at home (and being on a 2-game losing streak to the Orange and Blue), the Lady Longhorns had Gregory Gym rockin'. But when the 'Horns blew a 4-point lead to lose the 4th set, you could almost feel the tension and anxiety in the building all the way across the country here in California. Did Florida have our number (much like Penn State in years past)? Would the winningest senior class in Texas volleyball history fall short of the goal? The 5th set saw the 'Horns pull ahead, only to give up the lead and actually fall behind the Gators at 12-11. But Paulina Prieto-Cerame closed out the match 17-15 with two kills. And the Lady Longhorns are off the Omaha to face #2 seed Minnesota. Should they get by the Golden Gophers, they will face the winner of #4 Nebraska and Big 12 rival Kansas, who upset #1 seed USC 3-2 last night here in San Diego. Hook 'em, Ladies.
