I think it's fair to say that regardless of what part of the spectrum our politics belongs that we care about our kids and their wellbeing.
The common thread I see is how the left seeks to overwhelmingly protect our kids from becoming victims of gun violence. I'm sure the majority of the folks on the right believe that, while well intentioned, the left takes it a bit too far with regulations and the protections we want to install with respect to gun safety.
On the right, the fear of perverts staking out in public bathrooms to abuse our children is born out of an overwhelming sense of protecting our kids. While the right is well intentioned, folks on the left will argue that there really isn't much to fear and that the fear is born out of an unfamiliarity with the LGBT community.
At the end of the day it boils down to our misperceptions of folks who have different political identities than our own. The root of the action is the same, a desire to protect our children. The cause of the discord is a fear of the unknown or the lack of a cultural understanding.
