As someone who has lived and died with this program over 50+ years, I feel to a pretty good degree that I know a little about Texas Football. Here are my thoughts on this year’s staff, squad, and what lies ahead. On to thought..

1. Sark thinks he has a better squad than he really does. He did not respect UTSA last week and with a couple a different breaks during that game we could have been beat. Was conservative as Hell today with Card and thought we could use our running game to beat these guys eventually into submission even though they were BEGGING us to throw the ball. Sark continued to run the ball despite having multiple defenders in the backfield play after play this afternoon. His 2nd half play calling and adjustments were abysmal. If your gonna have a slogan of “all gas, no breaks” then put up or shut-up. That catch-phrase, along with DBU or “we’re back“ needs to be shelved- PERIOD.

2. Seen enough of PK to know he aint the guy. Going against a QB that is a ”turnover machine” and to not get a single turnover, after 16 games I seen enough of him and his decision making to know he ain’t the guy. Don’t care WHAT he did in the PAC 12- this ain’t the PAC 12. Furthermore, the guy is a recruiting liability. Kid got comfortable early and that was all she wrote. Why we didn’t light-up this kid early and often this afternoon is simply beyond me! Would imagine after the season he heads back to the Northwest. If not, Sark better damn-sure know what he’s doing.

3. Don’t underestimate the power of money in recruiting kids to come to Austin- I suspect we’ll be fine.

4. How we don’t have a kicker to put the ball into the end zone on kickoffs is beyond me ESPECIALLY when I see programs like UTSA and Tech having no problem with this exercise.

5. Our offensive line got worked today. Play calling by supposedly one of the best play callers in the country was pure S_HIT today. PURE 100% SH_T!

6. Blake Gideon’s secondary was incredibly mistake prone today. Former UT Player or not, not impressed. We can do better.

7. With all the weapons our squad has offensively, why our offense didn’t attack and distribute the ball to our play makers on the edge time and time and time again as Tech was crowding the interior is simply beyond me.

8. The Texas Longhorns are the Dallas Cowboys of College Football- PERIOD. When that changes I don’t know.

9. In back to back weeks I have seen our highly paid coaching staff get worked by former Texas HS Football Coaches. Yes there was a ton a gambling done by both opposing staffs, but those teams were better prepared to play us than we were to play them. Call it lack of respect, lack of focus, lack of caring, but whatever it is, those guys are getting paid a shit ton of money to put the best team on the field as possible.

10, Sark better pray Manning sticks because if this unfolds the wrong way, HE GONE after next season. Do I believe that Sark doesn’t work out? Not prepared to say. If he doesn’t can PK then it is only a matter of time. That being said, I think Sark is a smart guy and he will do what is necessary to make this thing work. This is Sark’s last chance- HE KNOWS THAT! If it doesn’t work here then he is done. He is going to exhaust EVERY avenue necesary to ensure that doesn’t happen. Barring Manning de-committing from Texas, Sark will get 4 full years. After that, this is simply too high-stakes a game to keep going down a road of mediocrity.

11. IF Sark doesn’t make it (and I think he will!), I’m not screwing around. I go get Lincoln Riley and move on down the road. He’s a Texan, and can sell that he’s FINALLY home. Urban is the only sure thing and he is a flake. Riley is a sure thing. Mike Norvell at FSU is a Texan and would LOVE to coach at Texas. His squad is coming around in Tallahassee in year 3 and the guy knows what he’s doing.

12. We will see what happens when Ewers gets back. This team lacks an Alpha Dog in a leadership role that can put th e team on his shoulders and lead to victory like a VY or Colt. I think he’s that guy. God bless Card but he just aint that guy.. I think Sark believes that as well. Sill on Sark for his handling of Card today on us losing. Card WAS NOT the reason we lost today- that is on this staff!

There’s a million other things I could say. After 16 games, this team still DOES NOT have an identity. There is NOTHING they can hang that hat on. If we don’t have a defense we can count on to hold our opposition in check then we are screwed. If we can’t run the football with 2 of the best back in College Football or throw the football with the weapons we have then we’re screwed. Folks, the clock is ticking and this team STILL doesn’t know who they are- and THAT is a HUGE PROBLEM!
