Yankees -angels. Another infield fly with interference called on the runner returning to the base. It went against the Yankees so everyone here is going to trip over themselves to justify the call but this little quirk is going to have huge ramifications this year.
The call a few days ago set a precedent and this play dug it in. In both cases the fielder was changing course mid play and ran into the runner who was taking a straight path back to the base.
So the umps are saying that the fielder can go out of their way and initiate contact with the base runner and no matter what it’s interference and an out?
It’s baseball’s equivalent of harden jumping into a defender. Or a straight up flop.
Just a really dumb interpretation of a rule.
