Dearest Richard,
We hardly knew ye. Let me start by saying "thank you" for the 10+ years you were director of basketball operations here at Texas. We were able to enjoy some sweet 16s, a few elite 8s and even a final four loss to Kansas, just down the road in San Antonio. You provided some hellified players for us to watch. Guys like TJ ford- (who doesn't remember TJ ford dunking right down the lane against Baylor on a putback of a missed free throw) LaMarcus Aldridge, arguably the best player in the game today, Mr Kevin Durant, among others.
Rick, when we sent you off to Tennessee it was for both our benefit. You see, you had lost focus and perspective as a basketball coach. You had gone away from what made us a top 25 team year in and year out, and you had devolved into building a hodgepodge program that showed little enthusiasm, little creativity, and even less results. We knew some time away from the ranch would put things in perspective for you. We understood that this "absence" as I will refer to it, was a way to motivate you. That was our grand plan all along Richard--- to help you reinvent yourself.
So congrats. It worked. Job starts May 1.
See you at the office.
