Baylor is returning to its past

Baylor is a disgrace to college football. The reason they are wearing black uni's is to protest art briles getting fired. That guy should be in prison. Would not break my heart at all to see them get the death penalty and then return only to be the big 12 doormat.

They won't get the death penalty. I think the NCAA realized that giving the death penalty to SMU was to severe and they won't do it again. I also think the NCAA realized it was to severe in it's sanctions against Penn State and they won't do that again either. It's hard for me to figure how the NCAA operates anymore. They just might be satisfied with Briles, McGraw, and Starr being fired. But after today what promising young coach will want to come to Baylor?

They didn't do it to Penn State, they won't do it to Baylor. It would be a double standard.

Disagree about sanctions against Penn State. PSU officials covered up the allegations etc to protect their football program, i.e. the money maker for their athletic department. They should have been given the death penalty for that. It was also very odd that Paterno retired right after becoming the winningest coach and then the scandal struck. To me, it does seem like they all knew about it.

To be very honest, at this point there is no difference between what is happening now and them just getting the death penalty. Either way, they are starting from scratch. Once this abomination of a season is over, they are going to be raked over the coals, any young player will likely jump ship.

They're done! Texas took the wind out of their sails, TCU demoralized them as they skull drug them in their own mausoleum.

The team will start to eat itself with winning the big 12 basically off the table. I am not sure who they lose to know what they can field next year. I guess it all depends on who they hire. They were the worst major conference program prior to Briles. Were talking worse than Kansas who actually was somewhat respectable for a stretch under Mangino. It will take a really poor hire to return them to that level, but there are good coaches out there that can keep them okay. It's not necessarily inevitable that they return to battling ISU for their lone big 12 win, but they certainly are going to take steps down.

I think they will have plenty of time to ponder the price of success.

I think it would be good for Baylor to look to Clemson for the next fb coach. Either one of their coordinators, Brent Venables, or Tony Elliot, could be great hires for them and show Baylor how to win the right way.

Oh, and look for an especially vicious game on Saturday against Oklahoma. This is probably the most vicious hitting rivalry in the Big XII. I'm serious. One of the negatives i the Briles era was that Baylor was always in the bottom ten for most penalized teams. The two dirtiest dc's in the Big XII are at Baylor (Phil Bennett) and OK. They coach like they crawled out of the sewer and that's how their defenses play.

Three years ago when Baylor beat Oklahoma they took a truly, indisputably, cheap shot on Sterling Shepard. Knocked him unconscious but worst of all there were two Baylor players who were strutting after the play. I'm not making that up. They managed to get called for three personal fouls on that play. Once again I'm not making that up.

Fast forward to last year. Baylor found out the hard way you just don't do that against OK, they won't forget it and they will get even, they always have. Baylor had to start a true freshman and OK's Charles Tapper body slammed the qb at least twice and he played the rest of the game in a fog. There were at least four personal fouls in the game. On another play a Baylor player made a helmet to helmet tackle on the women beater and Mixon's helmet came off. Amazingly there was no penalty called. And finally an OK player got kicked out of the game on a pat. Apparently the zebra's are going to let it go when these teams play.

That being said I look for OK to go out of their way to run up the score if they get the chance. They've got to make a case for an NYS bowl game. I'm sure like all other hc's Bob Stoops has a lot of respect for Jim Grobe on a personal level. But JG is going to spend the rest of the season paying for the payback that all the other Big XII coaches want to give to Briles.

Barry Switzer on Art Briles: A coach must be held responsible for his players' actions, behaviors

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/col...st-held-responsible-players-actions-behaviors

Why do I, to this day, detest Bary Switzer? Let me count the reasons. No, that would take to long. But among them, is personal responsibility. Barry Switzer has never accepted personal responsibility for what happened at Oklahoma not with himself, not with his players. And he will go to this grave feeling this way. Mea culpa? Not Barry Switzer.

He has no business condemning Art Briles or any other coach.
Ever
