Beginners luck

Look...No doubt, Baker Mayfield is a first class dick. However....kind of amazing that a guy that did not even get a sniff of a scholly from a top flight....hell maybe any school, has to walk on at TT of all places, wont be given the starter job even though he played lights out when in, decides to transfer ...AND has to walk on to OU where he finally gets a chance to win the job....turns out to be a Heisman winner and #1 pick....and STILL is an odds on favorite to fail, excells at the next level.

And that my friend is the longest sentence ever....oh...wait, I was talking about Baker.
Give the guy credit and wonder why our genius talent evaluators would not give him a shot.

It's impossible to measure spite, and shoulder chips. Purely impossible.

He energized the team and fans. Tyrod needs to be #1 this season. He needs a year watching. I don’t know if the coach and owner agree. Garret Gilbert would have worked out at Texas with a redshirt I believe.

Normally I'd agree and say that it's always better not to play a rookie qb. With mayfield they are going to be putting asses in seats, and selling more merch and getting more tv time. I think the positives outweigh the negatives for having him as QB1 at this point. Yeah he may not be fully ready yet, as most rookies arent, but he'll probably develop faster if he is playing on game day instead of holding a clipboard.

The real test comes half way through year 2 to the start of year 4. Consistency is extremely hard for a NFL QB. He is going to be good though I think...like Matt Stafford-ish good.

Exactly. But he's not some gimmicky qb. Guys like Kaepernick couldnt last because you just have to figure out how to keep him contained and he cant beat you with his athleticism. With Mayfield he's so accurate, and good under pressure, he doesnt use any sort of gimmicks to excel. He just makes good decisions and throws a damn accurate ball, and doesnt get happy feet. Not trying to be a homer but he doesnt have real glaring weaknesses at qb other than the one thing he cant change (size). He excels with the fundamentals

I agree with this. If he can avoid the typical problem of early starting rookie QB's which is he is on such a crappy team that he will get the crap beat out of him ala Archie Manning, then he will be fine....better than fine, he will star. I expect he will have a long career ahead of him.

He was this close to going to New England which would have been scary for the afc east after tommy boy retired

Here’s what everyone needs to realize! Every decent new QB out of college does ok the first year. They tend to struggle the next year because now the NFL has studied their tendencies.
You may be correct but Mayfield just sat in there and did what he does best, thats throw the ball on the money more times than not . They brought pressure and he just threw the ball when he had to. Not sure how you scheme against a highly accurate qb.
