no more like the little ten. I sure wish the Big XII could have had a shot at one of their teams, especially Wisconsin.

They went 3/6 including 1/3 in the NYS where they were able to sneak Wisconsin into an NYS bowl game.

Michigan a top 5 defense? Not when it mattered, not in the Orange Bowl.

PSU a great comeback team? A great second half team? Well, the third quarter yes, in the fourth when they needed it most? No. Just like Michigan, not in the biggest game of the year when it mattered most.

tOSU? Clemson finally played like the team that so many people picked to win the NC. And this time Urban Meyer lost in an NYS bowl game I don't think he ever has. Until now. The bucks were flat out thumped and shut out.

Other people will disagree but I still don't think WI deserved to be in the Cotton Bowl. It should have been Louisville. Yes LV lost their bowl game but I saw an uninspired team that was disappointed they didn't get into an NYS bowl game.

Barry Alvarez pulled strings and got WI in over LV. And lo and behold they got the non P5 team. Sometimes those teams play well, (Boise, and Houston) sometimes they're in over their head which Western Michigan was. Oklahoma would have beaten WI worse than they beat Auburn tonight. I would also give OSU a chance. Barry Alvarez is like the SEC if WI finished in a spot where they will have an unfavorable bowl game he manages to trade off and get them in something they will. Thing is nobody else in the Big X does that.

I think this season showed a good reason why the playoff shouldn't expand to 8 teams. A 3 loss Wisconsin would've made the bracket. That really weakens the regular season, knowing that a team can lose 2 or 3 times and still have a chance.

If they expand to 8 I hope it incudes automatic qualifiers for P5 conference champions. I don't want see them load up 3-4 teams from the conference du jour

That's not an issue. Each of the last 3 years, the p5 champions have been in the top 8 of CFP rankings.

Sorry, didn't mean to get this thread to a different topic. If people wanna discuss this we can start a new thread.

I get what you are saying but it's all hindsight. In hindsight OSU didn't belong either. I'm all for going straight tournament style. I don't know why Division I college football still wants to have judges play such a large role in deciding the champion.

Agreed here. It's one thing if "judges" (whether they be pollsters or a committee) get involved when it comes to who ELSE gets in to round out the group, but any given year, one conference could be way harder than the others and losses could happen in conference play that wouldn't have if they were playing in another conference. At the very least, all 5 power conference champs should be in, plus whoever seems like the best of the "group of 5". That means a 6, 8, or 10 team tournament... and, while in a totally fair world, you wouldn't put the "group of 5" team selection in the hand of judges either... 10 teams is a little awkward, so 8 just seems to make the most sense. Still would have judges, but their role would be reduced significantly. You could start the season telling teams "if you do ___, you're in." The current system as clearly shifted around the criteria from season to season.
