Bob Hall Pier

When you survive a category four, but not a category one (barely) --- that means it was time for a rebuild.

I lived in Corpus briefly in the early 2000’s and I vividly remember a pic in the paper down there of a guy hauling in a 10’ tiger shark off that pier. Needless to say I go no deeper than knee deep in the surf myself. I do like to wade fish in the bays but even then anything over waist deeps get a little out of my comfort zone

growing up we would go out to the 3rd sand bar. seems like you had to swim some to get there(too deep to wade). When you got on it the water was about waist deep. All the time out there stuff would brush against your legs.....never gave it a thought.....Then Jaws came out....I never went swimming there again.

One day the beach was packed and the shark fishermen from way down the island hauled in a hammer head that they claimed they had weighed at some rediculous amount like 1100 lbs and they hung it there for everyone to take pictures with right at Bob Hall....people would come out of the surf, get photoed and go right back in the water....I couldnt believe it....sometime in the 60's it was....

They just rebuilt the pier last year or one before, it cost the tax payer 1 mill,, probably won't build it back, they say the currents underwater washed the sand away from the legs and made it collapse, brand new concrete legs...hmmm? Go figure! yet we got a lotta rain and very little wind here in the Bluff, no electricity out...

Stranger-Heading your way down to Port A for a family vacation for 5 nights tomorrow. Are the restaurants open? Are the beaches still restricted to no driving on them?

Haven't swim at the beach in 29 yrs or so, its good for fishing only, but other people thing different, ever since the Red Tide and the Flesh eating stuff, I gave up wade fishing. I just get my ankles wet loading my boat on the trailer or Bubba and Trooper shakes out their water all over me..LOL, some days its looks pretty and most of the time it looks dirty...the further out you go its gets clearer

I remember the handful of times I swam in the ocean near corpus when I was a kid. Every single time I was either stung by a jelly fish, had tar/oil on some part of my body, got sand flea bites or was crapped on by a seagull. That places sucks balls.

My fond memories of a beach in Corpus was as a little kid. To me, I was being swept out to sea on an air up plastic raft, with the people growing smaller and smaller. But, I could hear my mom's screams. My brother in law dove in and swam to rescue me. Lol, I might have not been out that far, but it seemed like miles to a kid.

That's Corpus. Galveston is that x3. I don't get the fascination that people have with going to the beach in Galveston. It is nasty.

I laughed hard at this. We should put your statement on a highway billboard for Corpus and Port A.

I kept a Hobie 16 anchored to the sand in front of the Isla del Sol for 9 years. Singlehanded off the trapeze, took the kids out for rides.

KIII tv three. Ha. I came before you but I did weekly Inter views with your news station back in the day. Can't remember the sports caster off the top of my head but I will never forget one local corpus personality----

Channel 6 weatherman Dale Nelson. We called him "dead wrong Dale". Poor guy never got anything right. In point of fact, in an inverse world, he nailed everything-- I mean everything. If you wanted the forecast just tune into channel 6 and do the exact opposite of what Dale said. Guy was a phenomenon.

when i got to kiii in '99 furley was still at 10 as i recall and had been "promoted" to news director. dont think dale was still on 6? we had maclovio perez (rip) on the 6/10 at kiii, with me doing the weekends. you guys in the coastal bend around that time would remember lee saucely and lily flores vela and of course joe gazin! over on the island...there was a well known secret to having a really good beach party, right by bob hall pier was the kleberg/nueces county line and since it was OTB the kleberg deputies hardly ever checked their beach so it was game on for whatever!

KIII is a new comer station. They used to only have 6 and 10. I still remember Ken Sesna doing the weather. In these modern times my wifes cousin is married to Bill Vessey
